First in Montecito, then just today Corona and Yorba Linda which is only a few miles from where I live. I see the smoke building up from the distance and Canadair CL-415 flying formation to drop water and flame retardant.

Horrible conditions now. Winds and gusts with lots of dry weather. Shocked

Don't worry. The fires are around 20mi away from where i am at. I could see the smoke building up from location clearly though. Undecided

Following the various Cal Wildfifes over the years during my daily Cal Sim Flights, and my daily news from Kron4 and LA News, this one appears to have come rather late in the year this time!

I'm following it closely on the Kron4 news at the moment..

Ta for the photos, Alex, in the Photos Forum.
This appears to be a shot looking towards the Sam Bernardino Mountains, in the distance...>>> http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1226796372
I remember the fires on the San Bernardino Mountain tops a year, or so, ago and the fires in the Napa Valley, Livermore, and the devastating fires at Lake Tahoe and San Diego..!
Now you've got them at Big Sur and Santa Barbara!

...and still Folks build their homes in amongst flammable Trees... Shocked...!

....keep us up to date with the news and photo's, Alex...Wink...!

Oh dear...

Major freeways leading to and from the places that are burnt are closed down. All evacuations have been made yesterday and evacuations are on hold at the moment. There is just not enough space to hold all the people being evacuated. The DC-10 tanker made a couple passes around a neighborhood to give some fire protection but it is just not enough. P-3 Orions are doing to same but it just isn't enough. The CL-415 have been put back so the big aircraft can work. Shocked

Got a friend in LA somewhere, he's OK, not too close, but described the sky as "apocalyptic orange".

Back in the 50's before my area was built up, we'd get an occasion forest fire in the vacant pine tree lots we had here, usually contained quickly by firefighters, so no homes were ever endangered, but notheless still something to watch out for during the dry season.  Quite amazing how fast the fire moves.

Those fires were intense enough, but only would burn over a few acres, so it's difficult to imagine what it's like in CA right now.

Sad that people are losing their homes.
