I'm getting an "invalid keystroke or mouse click" sound, as I call it, on windows startup, right after logging on and the desktop shows up.  Know which sound I mean?  The one that usually accompanies an error message?  Not the two-syllable bell, but the single syllable "thunk" sound.  But I have no message, just the sound.  And no other symptoms.  No registry errors, no security errors, no program errors, no messages of any kind.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Sometimes these pings and bongs come up when hardware "fails" or fails to install drivers etc. Make sure everything you have in USB ports, PS/2's etc are all plugged in.

Look in your event viewer.

Run -> eventvwr.msc

Sometimes I get them because a startup program fails to load a .dll or something.

Could be your security software/firewall, too.

tvicport.sys is not signed or flagged as dangerous. Will probalby solve the 2nd one too (but that should not give any sounds)

I see that you run 64 bit vista... that one wont run 32 bit drivers unless you use the 'unsigned drivers' startup option

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I've discovered this is a result of installing Memset.  Some incompatability with something else, some other driver?.  On a fresh OS install there's no sound.  After many, many reboots (running Nick's XP tweaks, ya know) no sound.  The last thing I installed was Memset and after the next startup I started getting the sound.

How can I get rid of this, it's annoying! Roll Eyes

This is the specific error:

FSX runs fine... the problem
is you or your system

You only get that sound on a memset saved windows boot

think of it as Memset letting you know the settings you saved for boot enabled

forget it

as for the error listed above that is not what is causing the sound. That file can be installed from several different software sources. One of which is a wireless network adapter

You can rename it

C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\Drivers

TVicPort.sys to TVicPort.sys.old

Assignable cause.  Much better than not knowing what's going on.  That's good! Smiley  I won't worry about.  I just thought that since the sound and the error I pulled out of Event Viewer showed up at the same time, they were related.  Guess not.

Thanks Nick for putting my mind at ease.
