Just revisiting my Rampage Extreme install and I remembered a decision I made which might have a later effect -
on the underside of the board is a capacitor(?) which is mounted underneath the CPU. I use Thermaltake Liquid Cooling and the backplate is in the shape of an "H". To mount the backplate, the middle of the "H" sits right on top of the capacitor. I had two options, cut a hole in the backplate or mount it over the capacitor. I chose the latter putting a small bit of insulation between so there is no metal to metal contact. Tightening the waterblock was no problem and it makes good contact.
I assume if there were a short I'd have found out by now but just wondering if there might be other consequences that I am not aware of.
Hate to have to pull the mobo and start over but I will if necessary, assuming no permanent damage done to the mobo.
Thanx

Did the plate squash the capacitor?

no - it's one of those that's about 1 inch square and 1/8 in high. the backplate just sits on it and will press on it when the waterblock is tightened.
