I enjoyed the film.
But as bond films go... it was a bit of a disappointment.
I felt that the direction of the action sequences was too "jumpy" and "hyper". i didnt think it was possible to cram 70 different camera angles into 60 seconds of film!
i felt that not enough time was spent developing the plot... most bond films have a very well developed villain - this film however simply spent a few minutes eluding to the fact that this "business man" is up to
something sneaky in the dessert.
I further despised the fact that we had to see M cancel Bond's credit cards and "restrict his movements" for acting too rogue. AGAIN
how many bond films do we have to see this restriction of Bond's movements in? that segment of plot is a little over used of late.
also - i was very disappointed not to see Q in this film - no gadgets, no fancy watch, no remote controlled super car... just bond and a random lady out for revenge - mostly due to events from Casino Royale. though i do admit that some bond films have gone over the top in the "gadget" department - this one did NOTHING in the gadget department! if anything they should have struck a balance between "nothing" and "too much"
IMHO - they should have condenses this movie down to about an hour's length, and tacked it onto the end of "casino royale" because thats all it was - an extension of
that movie where some of the lose ends of royale are tied up... it pretty much starts up where royale finishes up.
we do get to see a lot of the same brutality as we enjoyed in royale... and thats great... but if i had to choose a bond film to see again many times over it wouldnt be Quantum of Solace.
one other thing that bothered me - early in the film when bond gets in the car with the woman she drives him down the road and rapidly swings her gun toward his head and shoots without hesitation at point blank range. (of course he deflects her hand as the shot is fired) BUT later in the movie she expresses that she has not killed anyone and seems to be uncomfortable with killing someone so bond coaches her about how to settle her nerves.
if she had never killed anyone and was uncomfortable with it... why was she so quick on the trigger early in the film?
personally i give the film 3 stars out of 5 (it was just OK)
