Anyone have this setup with XP 32.

Have tried a number of drivers from 177.92 to the latest 180.x drivers.

Running with a Q6600 at 3.4 and all my stress tests and other games (on a different Hard drive BTW), run perfectly.

Never had BSODs prior to installing this card and I'm very worried.

I have 4 GB (2x2GB sticks) of physical RAM and am running the 3GB switch. Problems still same even if I switch off ŁG switch.

Does anyone else suffer these problems - wondering if it is down to the card/driver, or the 4GB of physical RAM.

Please don't suggest a 8800 Ultra - or I'll scream.

Try the 8800 Ultra?
Cheesy

OK, what does the BSOD say when it comes up?

I assume you added in the correct TUNING value for the 3GB switch?

/3GB/Userva=2560

If you did... try this, reduce the Userva value by lots of 60. Start with

/3GB/Userva=2500

and retest... if BSOD still appears, reduce again to

/3GB/Userva=2440

still fails,

/3GB/Userva=2380

If you still get a BSOD then I would have to assume its not memory address space related and possibly a driver issue.

Okay Nick I'll try that - thnx.

But, I heard that multiple os 512 should be used ?

I'm starting to think that I may as well go back to 2x1GB - I don't think the extra 1/2 a gig - even if it's working - is really much benefit.

I may put my 4GB matched pair, on ice until I get Vista o r Windows 7.

The address space edit has nothing to do with what the application uses. As long as its FSX SP2 it will use up to 3.2GB of that memory in a 32bit OS

A 32bit OS has a flaw and can not read the memory useage correctly above 2GB so you are incorrect about only 1/2 gig more being available.

EDIT: My mistake... thats in lots of 64

reduce the Userva value by lots of 64. Start with

/3GB/Userva=2496

and retest... if BSOD still appears, reduce again to

/3GB/Userva=2432

still fails,

/3GB/Userva=2368

Sorry..   yes, 512 is part of that base 8 value but it only needs to be reduced until the BSOD stops... assuming it is a OOM error

read the BSOD next time it appears

Okay - will try it....although reading the text in 250 milliseconds is not an easy task...although "memory" and nv... do hit my retinas.

So you definitely think it's worth persevering with the full 4 GB of RAM ?

OK, you need to disable AUTOMATIC REBOOT on BSOD

SYSTEM PROPERTIES - ADVANCED TAB - STARTUP AND RECOVERY

uncheck - AUTOMATICALLY RESTART

Click OK and APPLY

From that point on your system will show the BSOD and you will need to hard restart the computer to clear it

yes, 4GB is still helping even if not 64bit OS

Ah, great - I'll get back when it's sorted - or I may end up doing a reinstall - everything else is as steady as a rock - it must be FSX.

Just had a crash now - this time it says something to do with terrain.dll - when it rains it pours !!!

Cheers

Well - various settings for the 3GB switch had no effect.

Swapped out the 2x2GB sticks bak for my original 2x1GB - gues what ?  Rock steady.

I'm absolutely thrashing FSX - changing aircraft and settings, bringing the FPS to its kness - it will not crash - I'm trying hard but no way.

So, for some reason my system does not like 4GB of physical RAM installed - or at least FSX doesn't like it !

So - GTX 260 and Quad 6600 - fine - running 177.92 and it's solid - but no way will it play nicely with the 4 GB of physical RAM.

Computer heh ? !!!

Cheers

hmmm, I have the Q6600 running at 3.6 and the GTX 280. I have 4gb Ram (4x 1gb) and it ROCKS! I'm getting 30fps consistently and in some areas 60-75FPS.

I'm using Vista 64 and the 180.xx beta drivers for the GTX 280.

Are you flying FSX with Acceleration?

Sorry Steve, should have added - I'm on 32 bit XP !

So, I was trying the 3GB switch - but FSX was having none of it - it even threw its toys out of the proverbial pram when I didn't use the switch - it just didn't seem to like 4 GB of physical RAM.

Since going back to 2GB it's fine.

BTW, which drivers are you using for the 280 - I seem to have problems with anything other than 177.92 - although now I've changed back to the 2GB of RAM I may try out the latest ones again.

Sorry - I see u use the 180.x - I had probs with colour on XP with those.

How u get to 3.6 on the Q6600 ? Water Cooling ?

Also, do you use DirectX10, and how does Vista 64 compare to XP performance wise - I'm considering the upgrade from XP.

Vista 64 has been great so far. No issues here at all (knock on wood)!

I upped the vcore to 1.475 and set it to 400. I am sync'd to the RAM (DDR2-8500 x 4gb) and that's it. It just worked. I had trouble between 3.25 and 3.4--it seemed to be a hole there that wouldn't get stable. So instead of fiddling around I went straight to 3.6.

I have air cooling using a Vendetta 2 cooler. I have the Antec 900 case that has fans all over it too. My temps got to 60ş at 100% using burn test. It will never get that hot running the game.

I don't use DX10. My performance was worse with it and the flaky display issues made me nuts. I hope those issues are fixed with the next FS release. We'll see.....

Did you check that temp with the software CoreTemp to confirm it?

@Gabe.. its very possible Gabe the issue is not Windows and is instead BIOS settings for tthe memory, or, the memory itself

What did the bluescreen say?

Yes, I have coretemp opened while I run the test. The 100% load temps bounce between 56-58ş hitting 60ş for short periods of time.

I'm getting great temps. The Vendetta 2 cooler is a great addition.

Well how come everything else is rock solid with the same hardware ?  The bios settings must be okay - I've run all sorts of benchmarks and stress tests on my FSX drive...no probs at all.

I haven't had another BSOD since but had lots of CTDs....so I just swapped out the RAM back to 2x1GB as I had some other stuff to do under the cover, and alls be fine since - not one CTD or BSOD even using strees torture settings in FSX with the PMDG 747 !

So I'm sticking with that for now although I may try Vista - or just wait for Windows 7.

I can't see any real benefit from Vista for FSX to be honest and my RAM sticks can go into my other PC when I upgrade that one.

Thnx anyways.
