Hi all,

Am thinking of buying a netbook to take to work with me, but I have no experience or idea about the pro's & cons Vs a normal laptop. Aside from the size difference compared to a laptop, are there any other advantages - I really like the smaller size though.

I like the look of the Advent 4123 (random web review), the built in sim slot seems like a great idea for mobile broadband. I'm after something will work reasonably fast, but I'm not sure which particular netbook would be the best to go for. Anybody have any recommendation's?

Cheers,

TSC.

One question you really need to ask your self: Do you NEED internet access that badly when you're away from home? I know your work Martyn, but would the cost justify it? A simcard slot is all well and good, but you're limited by the phone network providers bandwidth and also the cost... 3G (If available in your area) is cheaper, but both are still pricey compared to a standard broadband connection.

I'd get a cheap laptop...  and hope somebody next door/close by has an unsecured network..  Wink

I see what your saying Rob, but sometimes I'm at work for 3 days straight & somebody has got to keep you lot in order, otherwise we'd have mods running riot, moving things here & there, locking threads, getting marmalade everywhere... You can see how things would escalate.  Grin

I think the cost of the mobile broadband would  be about £30 - £35 a month & it's either that or set up a wired BB account at work, which would be cheaper, quicker & more reliable - & the more sensible option. Obviously I don't need the internet at work, but it would be nice to be able to check in occasionally when I'm away for 2 or 3 days at a time.
