Hello,

I am considering buying a new graphic card to replace my ATI X1950 Pro. Main candidates are Geforce 9800 GTX+ and Radeon HD 4850.

I have read somewhere that performances of 9800 GTX+ were weak on FSX, much weaker than the one of 9800 GTX and 8800 GTX. Their explanation was a driver problem.

Could anyone confirm or infirm this problem? Could you tell me about your experience with this card, especially if you had the opportunity to compar it with similar cards?

Regards,

The best card for FSX is either a 8800GTX ultra or a 280

Either one, you need a CPU that will keep up with them so if you plan on sticking such a card in the system make sure the CPu is up to the job or the result will be limited

Thanks for your answer. I know that FSX mainly depends on the CPU, and my CPU is fine (Intel quad-core Q9300).

So I don't expect great improvement from a new graphic card. I am getting a new video card mainly because I am getting a new screen with a much higher resolution, that my current video card won't handle properly.

There are some situation where I expect the video card to make a big difference : atmospheric effects (anyone can confirm?). The mission in the storm in Innsbruck, where you can see nothing, runs at 12 FPS on my machine Sad I guess a modern video card would help in this situation.

It depends

it will help but most of the horsepower comes from increasing both the vide card and CPU at the same time.. so clocking that CPU with a VC upgrade would net the best result
