While I love Tolkien, I would put him in a fantasy writer category.

In fact, I would say he started that category, made it what it is today.
When he published, it was the biggest thing since Beowulf and The Cantebury Tales were published.

Kids will be reading it in class in a few hundred years.  And complaining about it.

(I hated Chaucer).
