I am about to scream! I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled FSX for the fourth time and I still cannot get the HUD and MFD's to come up in VC on the FA-18. It use to work. The first time I had FSX installed they worked fine. I reinstalled it for some other reason and now they just refuse to come up. I don't get any kind of error telling me some gauge is an older version and won't work in FSX. It doesn't tell me anything. It just doesn't come up. Even the HUD in 2D won't work. What's the deal? I have a few other a/c that do the same thing but they aren't installed right now. This is a completely new install of FSX and Accel pack with no other add ons. SP1 & 2 are installed with Accel pack, correct? So there shouldn't be any other mods or patches I need. I wouldn't be all that suprised if it was just the add on planes had panels that don't work. That happens to me all the time...   "garunteed to work in FSX" but then all kinds of error messages about the .gau files being an older version. Anyway, how could this happen to a plane that is part of the original game and it use to work? Someone PLEASE help me out here. What am I missing??? BTW my system is a Duo core 2.13 ghz, 2 gb RAM, nVidia 8600gts, X-fi.

Is it juts the HUD or are all of the VC gages gone? Also there is a row of switches just above the center MFD with a nob that controls the brightness of the HUD this needs to be turned all the way to the right. You can try that, but it should be defaulted to the right setting when you load the aircraft. You can also try to replace the panel folder inside your F-18 folder and see if that dose anything. Be sure to back up your panel so if it dosen't work, you can put the old one back.  I have never heard of this problem before, sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

It's everything. No HUD, no MFD's, no working gauges at all. As for the brightness and function knobs, they are apparently defaulted to off or dim. The function knobs are always in off. But I can't change them to on. The cursor turns into the little hand like it's a functioning switch and even "closes" on the knob or switch when I click it. But then I can't do anything with it. It won't move or turn in any direction I move it. There are a few knobs or switches that do work but most of them don't, even though they act like they should work.
I have actualy put gauges and MFD's into this plane from another FA-18 and they do work. Big difference is that the working ones are .xml gauges and the original FA-18 uses .dll type gauges. Like I said before, the most frustrating thing about it is that it did work before. Last night I was trying some different stuff with another planes panel that doesn't work (F-16). It is similar in that the only gauges or displays I could get to work were the .xml type. I would take a .gau file from another plane where it worked just fine and put it in this F-16 and get nothing. I took an ASI .gau file from an F-5A that has a beautiful panel that works great, put it in this F-16 and then suddenly got errors about some other 737 gauge or some such thing and then of course it wouldn't work at all. What would make a .gau file work on one plane but not another?

Are the replacement gauges you're using installed to the main FSX\Gauges directory or the Panel folder of the aircraft they originally came with? If it's the latter FSX won't be able to find them for use on a different panel.
