Easy tiger... REX could still be MANY months away. There is NO release date and with the weather engine and their perfectionism the beta could take a long time yet.

Everyone's very tired of waiting - and they're tired of hearing about it: see the next post after yours  Cheesy

http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.php?topic=171.45

Well done for saying it mate, I've posted several long posts to the same effect, and as always, nothing doing. They are simply not willing to come out and give an indication of how close they estimate they are to release... JayKae's involvement in setting their site up may be a good sign, or it may not. It might be just that they're chummy with Orbx and he volunteered not knowing any more than the rest of us  Grin
He should have known he'll be plagued with release questions as the only person willing to communicate regularly on there...

Now that thread's locked I'm not sure what people will be going there for...

If you've got the cash I'd buy FEX now and think about REX for Christmas. I'm sure glad I got FEX before REX was even heard of, or I'd have held out for REX for who knows how many months flying in default skies... Smiley

The shots are very nice though, even with the default skies - you can't beat FTX... Smiley

Thanx  Cheesy Don't like sounding like a rebel but things must be said the way they are  Smiley

Honestly, this should be close to release else they will be stabbing themselfs in the back in my opinion. Locking that thread was the last straw, I wont go back there till its release.

These guys are just toying with us imo.

I decided to wait till the end of the month otherwise I might as well buy FEX, I heard their HD cloud download is spectacular.

Great shots there thread-killer! Wink Grin Grin I do not think the default are all that bad(mainly because that's what I'm stuck with at the moment. Wink Smiley) and they look wonderful in these shots. I may be with you on the FEX/REX issue, and completely agreed with your statement on their thread. Thanks for speaking your mind. Wink Cool

But it's one thing to tell us it's gonna be a while, and another to keep advertising, "IMMEDIATE RELEASE" for the past year and a half... Roll Eyes

Grin Not quite - it's been about a year, and 'coming soon' was on their site from maybe March.... but I remember on first seeing their pics last October, and before there was any talk of a weather engine or flight planner, thinking naively that 'it looks great, they are posting promo shots, so it must be nearly ready for release'. I thought it would be definitely out for Xmas 07, but Tim was evasive about this and said, just like now, they can't give a specific date but it won't be long.

What I think happened is that they severely underestimated the nightmare of programming the weather engine, and there was maybe some feature creep. It would have made much more financial sense to release it at Xmas as a textures-only product like Flight Environment - many many people would have bought it. Then work on a new product - Rex PRO - with more textures and the planner, weather engine, toaster and everything else... and sell it with a discount to existing customers. Or even without the discount.  Cheesy

It's not about bringing out a bug-free product taking time, and unreasonable impatience from 'immature people' as so often their supporters make it out to be. It's about promoting the product long before it was ready, keeping the idea alive that it's coming soon and generally not communicating with potential customers that actually it's still a long way off - with the result, intentional or not (who can say?), of stringing people along and stopping them from buying competitors products.

I'd like to stress this is my PERSONAL OPINION as a simmer, screenshooter and professional soap-boxer, not as a rep. of this site.  Smiley

Besides the "coming soon" posted on their site for many months there are many quotes in the "dawn of a new era" post hinted early releases at certain times of the post.

Ofcourse the coming soon was removed from their site when people took them to task about the slight misrepresentation, in other words people complaint, who were they? Not me  Roll Eyes

As for your statement, simmers are impatient, I don't fully agree. Impatient is when I am told something will be out in 2 years, and in month 18 I moan and groan.

Impatient is not when I moan and groan because I was told it will be out soon and 1 yr later there is nothing, that is called, err wait this is a family forum  Grin

I could have bought FEX last year October when I ran a search in google for a weather program.

I ran that search and saw FEX and REX, the understanding was it was close to release, so I waited because it looked great. I am still waiting, still on default clouds. Now that I call misrepresentation and I feel stupid for waiting so long  Angry

just my opinion....

hang on, so your bashing REX and you say it looks awesome, but your against their marketing idea, when i see it as it was probably going to be out around when they first predicted, but then the 4096 res clouds came into play they had to be developed and a weather system and flight planner both of which seem some of the best. However beside all your bashing you still won't buy FEX even though it promises somethign similar and are pulling a similar stunt.

i think this thread has been hijacked
