A: It explodes  Shocked Grin
B: It will stop and give the message "Operating System Not Found"

actually... it will not boot at all... since there is nothing to boot  Roll Eyes

in practice, the comp will just hang at the 'operating system not found' screen and that's that...

A clearification of what "boot" actually refers to.....

Any computer is useless until an OS is installed.
The problem is, how do you install an OS on a computer that
can't do anything until an OS is installed to begin with?

So, in the early days iof computing, a few hardware and software tricks were developed to allow you to install/load software (the OS) on a computer with no OS.

It was said that installing /loading an OS  was like a computer lifting itself up by its own  "boot" straps and the term "boot" has been with us ever since.

So, when tunning on a computer with no OS installed, the compter will simply search for one and give you an error when one is not found. Smiley
