I turned into a Martian!
I had to go way back to find a post about this, 2004 I think, but how about a chat room, just for members to keep out the sexual predators and such. I read the full thread on this topic from '04 and there were very valid points for not doing it then, but times and technology have moved forward. Is it possible? Is anyone even interested in this idea?
Just a thought. I suppose the forum is kind of a chat, but something more like a live conversation would be kinda cool.

I'd support it! Though I think some problems might have to be written down in threads to avoid explaining the same topic to each and everyone over and over again...!

I was thinking something more like the pilots lounge, no flight sim speak allowed, just to avoid that problem, just a place for the regulars to shoot the breeze.

Forums are a lot more formal than chatrooms...it would be ok but seeing as this is a family friendly site,
it would be hard to control the content being put in the chatroom
. A chatroom for the paying members only wouldn't be that bad though.

And with proper moderation (even a robo-mod), anyone who logged in and starts with "ASL?" (Age, Sex, Location?) could get auto-booted/banned. Besides that, the sex predators would be hard pressed to find victims with this bunch, if that's a major concern.
Asside from the social aspect of just shooting the breeze, I do think a chat is a good idea for Q&A about the sim, too. Especially when explaining some of the "How To's".
Pirch was (and as far as I know, still has) a pretty good chat system, allowed for "side chats", and I believe a decent system for filtering, or at the very least allowed "moderators" to boot/ban someone at the drop of an inuendo. In the Science Fiction/Fantasy chat room I participated in, we were all moderators, and when someone's first post was "ASL?", it was a contest to see who'd hit the "kick/ban" button first.

I remember this has been brought up before, and whatever the reason was, Pete decided against it. Or something. I don't recall.

I like the idea just I love how we credited for our posts..
Thats probally just me because ive never been so close to 1000 posts..
I feel like people like me here
If we had a vote though Id support it but if it means the forums stop the posts and noone goes on here as much I would pick the forums..
Sincerely, Tyler

It doesn't make a difference how many posts you have, anyway.

I forgot all about this post!
After spending more time here and also visiting another chat room, I've changed my mind, chat rooms are too chaotic!
I think I like the peacful format of the forums better.
Thanks for looking and responding though!

We can always use our FS server as a chat room. Using FSHost to open it up and there is the chat box.
So we already have a chatroom.
