WINNERS, WINNERS, WINNERS

Judge Unknown was looking for ultralights and you all came up with a great bunch – I must say I was surprised at the turnout for such an ‘unglamorous’ topic. Great to see so many people taking part! Anyway, over to Judge Unknown and his pick of the winners…:

In first place…

Fighter25!!!!

...

"Fighter25 won this contest with his ultra realistic shot! Love the ground textures and angle! Congratulations!!!”

CONGRATULATIONS, FIGHTER25!!!!

In second place….

Todayshorse!!

...

"Fantastic colours and atmosphere!”

And in third place…it’s……

AlexanderDz!

...

“Beautiful pic! The theme in this contest was ultralights, but I was unable to not include Alexander in the winners! Furthermore his bird almost fits the definition of ultralights I gave at the beginning of the comp….”

“Well done all! That was a great contest! Wink

Cheers,
Ingvar  Cool

Yep, well done all, and Fighter25 should have his comp up by Monday night or so…and look out for the new pics in the portfolio gallery shortly.

Cheers

What defines an ultralight... does it include that new FAA category (with the piper cub) or not

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I would prefer european microlights and ultralights definition:

The definition of a microlight according to the Joint Aviation Authorities is an aeroplane having no more than two seats, maximum stall speed (VS0) of 35 knots (65 km/h) CAS, and a maximum take-off mass of no more than:
300 kg for a landplane, single seater; or
450 kg for a landplane, two-seater; or
330 kg for an amphibian or floatplane, single seater; or
495 kg for an amphibian or floatplane, two-seater, provided that a microlight capable of operating as both a floatplane and a landplane falls below both MTOM limits, as appropriate.

Foot-launched aircraft are excluded from this definition.

These definition isn't strict,so if you have a good shot with something similar to ultralight-feel free to post it!

Foot-launched aircrafts and paragliders are ALLOWED in contest!

Well done you winners!

Sorry it took so long - I've been on holiday again.  Cool

It's over now though, till at least January, so the JC comps should be flowin' thick n'fast from now on like on the morning after a strong curry.

Cheers

I don't really think it fair for the other contestants to judge a shot of a defined plane, based almost entirely on ground textures - in this case a payware scenery, which is not really available to everyone as such...

Just not all fair for the others... But of course, it's your opinion that counts, and I respect that.

Can't wait for the next one!

I disagree. Wink I've got freeware scenery that's not that far off what he had, got it here too!, but I didn't use it in my shot. Besides I think the ultralight(same one I used) is what makes that shot, and looks more real than the scenery does. But, that's just my opinion  and sometimes I have a habit of saying it. In Judge's Choice
it's totally up to the judge how they decide
. Nothing is 'fair' or 'unfair', it's up to them. If you win one day you can choose to ignore all payware contributions, or stipulate 'freeware only' in the rules, it will be your comp and your right to choose... Smiley

For 'fair' competitions, see the normal gallery contests and the main site contests... though whether it's 'fair' that a guy with a 2000 dollar computer can take better screenshots and thus win than a guy who can only use FS2002 on 800x600 without AA because he can't afford a better comp is also a moot point.  Wink

Hope that clears things up...

I agree. Its all up to the judge for that particular comp to decide. I dont have a good setup. I use a single core, 1 gig of ram, and a graphics card that I guess you would consider an entry level card. But I've managed to win one of the jc contests, and get another runnerup. All with my inferior (to me) computer. I too used to think it was unfair to have payware/freeware mixed into one comp.... but in the end its all the judges choice. Its what catches his/her eye. Your job is to get that eye catching shot!

Congrats to the winners by the way! All were great looking shots.

Anxyous, read this:

A year and a half ago, I bought FSX, my first sim ever, and I had a P4, 3.0 Ghz with HT, 512 MB of DDR-something under 400 RAM, and an integrated intel chipset from 2003.

Needless to say, it didn't run too well, but I honestly didn't care, and a year ago I think was when I first entered a contest, I took the SS from a birds-eye-view so you couldn't see the plane very well, while having a jagged Sonic boom effect, over 1x low water.

I thought it was a good shot actually, at the time, Tongue.

Now, I have an awesome 9800 GTX+ (got it yesterday, before that pic I took was taken, that one was from a 8600 GTS), a Q6600, and 3 gigs of some crappy DDR2-800 that came with a dell comp, with a cas latency of 6.

In conclusion of that little story:
I just evolved in a way, taking little steps, and I don't think I complained, except to my dad about not getting me a good graphics card (that's out of the way, but it was with my own money because of it!).

I think it's up to each judge.

Also, krigl, is there a way you can find that first SS I posted? I've tried searching for it for the last month to no avail.

My decision was based not only on ground textures,i just liked how the shot was taken: height,angle..erm...and groun textures...But if someone doesn't have an ability to buy FTX-freeware photoscenery is his friend.. Wink fxp, this shot is absolutely freeware and contains BlueSkyScenery Nevada scenery and def. Extra:
...
With good use of height and angle this scenery would be a great place to take screenshots...
That's my opinion... Wink

Interesting points here!!!

I shall now reveal my ancient compuers specs for the first time - and also state that my JC comp this week was ALL freeware!! Los Angeles from bluesky (i think thats the name) the strange aircraft was from here or AVSIM (i dowloaded quite a few from both) the sky is FSskyworld, and although i did edit it slightly, i did that with paint.net, which is also free!

Id love a super powerful computer, but at the moment, having just moved house and about to start a new job after being out of work for some time Sad, its low on my list. But it is possible, ive won a JC, got a couple of seconds, and won a couple of the monthly shot contests, so i dont think its a handicap. Its technique and using what you have to the best of your abilities!

Anyhow, check this,, its worth a giggle...!

PacKard Bell 'Dixons special'
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.16ghz (supposedly as fast as an Intel 3ghz!)
512mb RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX5500 Cheesy
120GB barracuda HD
20GB Maxtor HD slave that i found in a box in the cupboard that the boiler is in, in our new house. Works great!

Cant remember the rest, but ive added a fan to cool the GeForce thats wedged above my Creative sound blaster sound card, and changed the fan in the Power supply thing as it was a bit slow and used to get warm!

I get some super results, but im sure with somthing more up to date it would be a lot easier!!!!!!!!

All I'm saying, is that I see a lot of judges choosing a certain subject or plane or w/e, but winning shots are judged on completely unrelated (to the chosen subject or w/e) bases.

Personally for me the (typical/untypical) environment in which chosen plane(object) fly in pic is very important...
