Man i love Orbiter. My favorite addon for it is the Delta Glider IV. Easily the best freeware vehicle EVER!

No question. I always seem to blow it up though. I land to hard and break the gear, or exceed the hull temp., or get into an unstable orbit or something. I'm good with the shuttle though.  Cheesy Can do a whole mission.

Cool

On the DG IV, just press alt+6, it puts you in a perfect orbit.

I only wish it would run on triplehead resolutions...

is it still in the 2006 version?? or has there been an upgrade?

i`m just waiting for my saitek x52 to play it properly... omg that`ll rule!!  Cheesy

I know about the autopilots, but once I'm there, I still manage to screw it up some how.  Grin And yes, it is still the 06 version.

Orbiter is better played with the num pad, as all the thrusters are aliased to those already (and, its a pain to assign new ones)

Thanx for the link! This thing is awsome! and pretty damn hard too! Wink
Tons of addons it seems, are the higher res textures worth the performance hit, or is there a hit at all? Looks like I should be able to run them based off of the requirements. Thanx again. Smiley

Looks great.

About to download it myself.

1) Is it hard?

2) Does it take long to get to mars?

3) Is the high res downloads below the base back download worth downloading?

4) Does it have sound?

Nice shots  Cheesy

Thanx KDSM  Cheesy

I dowloaded it, all high packs and even got the sound pack.

I even managed to exit earth flying mannually after the 4th or so attempt.

Only problem is when in space, I just cant controll the craft.

Thursters off, RTC on and I spin around in circles.

I also can't seem to fly in a straight line  Embarrassed

Navigational systems is confusing, where is Mars? Grin

Try reading the manuals or even this tutorial.

http://www.gpforums.co.nz/showthread.php?threadid=234067&perpa

If you read the above tutorial - PeD / ApD no longer exist. Just use PeA and ApA instead, these are the altitudes above the SURFACE, not the centre of the body like previously PeD / ApD were. If they are not on the Orbit MFD then press the DST button. Everything else should be the same. Smiley

About to do a Progress (unmanned Soyuz) mission to ze ISS. Smiley

I imagine they'd be able to go out far distances and not tak up much memory space, since space is just, well, space. How far out does it go anyways?

I've tried to see how far it goes, but it just takes to long, even with unlimited fuel, and time acceleration. I have gone pretty far past where Pluto would be (since Pluto isn't in the sim).

Cool

Edit: Oh and if you guys have any questions about Orbiter, Dan's Forum is a good  place to ask questions about Orbiter. You can find it off the main Orbiter page. I'm Brando14100 there too. I'm not on there nearly as much now that I have SimV though.

SMALL inputs with the thrusters! + key  on the numberpad is main thrusters, Playing without a joystick is sucide! F1 for cockpit view, F4 for menu,F9 for celestial grid.  The best way out of a spin is a button called "Kill Rot". When using Time Warp start small and work up to make sure you're not spinning! A small spin at x1 speed becomes unreal at x1000!  And landing on Jupiter is harder than I Thought! Wink

Lol, I deleted this game.

I managed to reach the moon. Pointing my ships nose to it, I got close to it and somehow managed to overshoot.

Pressing T for having time go by quicker almost result in spin out ALL the time.

Not userfriendly for me @ all.

I'll stick to FSX  Cheesy

Read a tutorial. As for your overshoot, you're travelling at tens of thousands of kilometres power hour. You cannot stop in a dime & dock with another object that is at ten thousand km / hour + in another direction.

Pressing T for having time go by quicker almost result in spin out ALL the time.

You're not supposed to use time compression when you're maneuvering. You use time compression to pass time.

There is a no cross hair which tells you where to go. There is a prograde icon and a retrograde icon if that's what you mean.

Orbiter can be very hard at first... but once you get the hang of it, it becomes so much fun..

just don't give up on it... start small, then work your way up... remember a sub-orbital flight is way easier than a trip to Mars

try launching out of earth athmosphere just to see how the craft handles... then bring it back down... once the air is below you, it's completely different than flying conventional aircraft... so don't get frustrated if at first it seems to hard

remember that in space, every action REQUIRES an equal opposite reaction so a little push forward needs another push backwards to make you stop

also KillRot (numpad 5) is your best friend use it!

after mastering controlling your space-borne craft, try establishing a stable orbit (close to 0 eccentricity)... this might require some reading of tutorials to properly understand orbital mechanics (it's very simple after you figure it out)

just keep in mind that it may look difficult at first, but it's not like it's rocket science.... oh.. wait  Wink

Cheers

A good thing to start out with is the Deltaglider (Not DGIV, that's hard). Just take off, go straight up (90 degrees, hold it, killrot is your friend). Cut off the engines at 50 kilometers, hit Horizon Level. Once level hit killrot again. Once the nose starts going down by itself (HL can't hold it), turn off all autopilots, nose down about 20 to ten degrees, and turn off thruster control. Then just use engines as nescessary to line up and land. If done correctly, there will be no reentry, and when you come down in HL, you will descend straight down, in other words, directly over your landing site. This is a very good way to learn. If you get good at it, try higher engine cutoffs, and orbital missions. Work your way up to the more realistic DGIV.

Cool
