It's my understanding that GMAX is free.  I didn't see any "30 day tiral" thing, either.

I made a "spherething" instead of a cylinder with slab wings.  I still do not see how to export it to the sim for testing, however.  Somewhere along the line it has to be converted to a "spherething.mdl......

gmax 1.2 is on the FS2004 disk (with teh FS2004 SDK) AND the
FS-X Deluxe SDK installs the gmax executables (of course, you need FS-X SDK 1 to actually GET the gmax FS-X tools, but.....

The FS-X, as originally issued with the FS-X Deluxe DVD, included only the xtomdl.exe and plugins for 3DSMax.  At that time, Microsoft had not received authroization to release the gmax tools from discreet/Autodesk.  SDK Sp1 was released, and THAT update added the gmax tools.

For CFS2, you need either FSDS2, or gmax and the FS2002 gamepack.  You can actually use the FS2004 gamepack, but without the custom XML animations - just stock animations.
