I think for the upload results page it should have a 600K warning after we uploaded so we know which to put as links and thumbnails when we go over the per post limit. If it isn't too difficult to code such a calculation to the page 'Upload Results" page.
Thanks

I see this as fairly pointless......If I know how many pictures I want in a thread, I do the maths and work out what size each has to be before compressing them to that size. Normally this is done aiming for a certain size but with some shots higher and some lower so it can balance out (some shots compress well etc)

I post a lot of images. These are not always uploaded at the same time so I really don't see how this would help. (Very often I post more than 8 images in a single topic.) The method I use is to drag all the images I intend posting in a topic into a new folder. Then it's easy to check the exact file size of the folder from Properties.

Yes I would like a warning but it is very easy to round the sizes of your images.

I thought when you upload, it already tells you the total size of each and then for all together.

I think the 600K limit is useless, and I walk past it anyway.
It changes nothing if I put 800K in one topic, or make two 400K topics.

I must confess that I didn't check my posts neither... But I think in times of nearly everybody owning a high speed (or at least some sort of) DSL connection, 600k + aren't a big problem...?!

Believe it or not, not everyone has high speed internet. If you've had it for years and years, you may take it for granted. It wasn't untill earlier this year when I moved to the city did I get high speed internet. Before that, I was on slow 26k dialup. Normal forum pages were slow, and it took several minutes to load a thread with 500kb worth of images in it.
But it also keeps honest people accountable and posts in check, otherwise people would be needlessly posting large images

I'm in favor of getting rid of the 600k limit too. I think Simv should just have a lower quality text only option for the forums like other websites do. Pictures in posts could just show up as links and the forum could only show the basic text in posts. This way dial up users wont have problems with getting pages to load, and DSL users wont have to take extra time to get pictures within the 150k and 600k limits.

Those of you who break the rules on image sizes and linking are singuarly selfish as you are slowing things down for other users who may not have as fast a connection as yourselves. Now that you've admitted who you are we'll be watching. Any breach will result in the thread being removed!
Don't say we didn't warn you...

I've been rather busy. However not having mega-super-daddy-paid-for broadband I hate people who do these things. It is purely selfish and totally out of order.
Repeat offenders will be banned from this site. If you can't respect other people you ain't got a place here at SimV!

It's been observed for quite some time now, but we have turned a blind eye to keep the members happy. Now they want to rub it in our face and brag that they just ignore it? Personally I'm insulted, we do our best to make sure EVERYONE (including dial up users) get the full experience. The reason these rules are in place is so that ANYONE can come and enjoy the site, not just broadband users.
I'm rather disappointed after reading some of these posts, SimV is a great family of SimPilots, but there seems to be a few black sheep...

What's better, waiting 1 minute for a page with six shots to load, or spend 1 1/2 - 2 minutes on loading two pages with 3 shots?
Just saying...

how about having a seperate no-limit thread for high-rez pics in each of the graphical-related threads? i dunno what the server bandwidth situation is like with this site and if having those type of threads would cause any problems.....just a thought though.

better idea, two versions of the site, one for high bandwidth, and one for low bandwidth with text only and pics as links. This would allow for the best of both worlds, and it would allow for users with slow connections to load in the text only, speeding up their experience in general, as they don't have to worry about loading pics on top of the page, and one for people with broadband which can load all they want. This way, if you can't handle one because of your internet connection, you just select the other. This would also seriously help those on mobiles that want to read the forums while on their phones (most carriers seriously limit your mobile bandwidth, and as such, it's helpful to not have to load all those images in general)
while I will obey the rules, and I avoid breaking them, I feel that this would be the better option for everyone.
