Yeah, it does get complicated at first. But after of playing for a while, you start getting the hang of it. The real complicated bits come in when I start getting into near-damn impossible missions where I have to deal with ships that have medium weapons [I have small] and come in large numbers [like 10 in a pack]. To make matters worse, they shoot rockets while my ship isn't advanced enough to incorporate rocket launchers. Thankfully, I managed to buy a cruiser. That should help me for a while.
You're right, it really is a fun game. The storyline is very well written, graphics are stellar, and the map is extensive to say the least.

its probably one of the best MMORPG's out today, and the good thing is, it doesnt try to please everyone, and that way its amazing! because as you said its just so well made and the story is real! then the end game/ off story playing is good with people waging war with each other
mite try eve again sunday/monday (my days off) see how i get on
cheers katahu thats my summer gone

Well, I managed to buy my very first cruiser. Even though it packs a lot of armor and new features, it's a very awkward-looking ship. It's also the first ship I managed to buy [over 3,000,000 ISK] that actually allows me to install missile launchers and much bigger guns.
I have to admit. In EVE, there is always training required for almost anything. I mean, I have to buy many books in the market in order to train my character for the skills needed to [A] install a missile launcher, [B] install the actual missiles, and [C] hope to god that I have enough weapons to ensure that my ship won't get blown into the vacuum of space.

EVE is awesome... it is the most realistic and dense MMO out there... and probably one of the most expensive too
i've only played the 14-day trials they offer... but it is awesome...
too bad you can't buy large ships on the trials...

You better make sure your ship is rigged with howitzers and missiles because my ship is loaded with them.
Bleh! Caldari. We gave your people everything and then you attacked us.
Oh, dear. Now I'm sounding like a complete nerd.

Well, apparently I lost not only my ship but also my life to a bunch of pirates in low-security space. Needles to say, I was completely surrounded by ships that are as powerful as mine and they were all launching a barage of nearly 10 missiles every time they fired. I tried to escape by warping out, but for some reason the nearby stargate was surrounded by this wierd bubble that kept me from warping out. As a result, not only did I lose my ship [ a cruiser armed to the teeth with defenses, missiles and howitzers], but I was also pod killed.
Thankfully, EVE introduced this concept of "jump clones". Whenever you die, your thoughts and memories are automatically transfered to a clone of yourself that waits in a stasis chamber in one of the stations in hi-sec space.
here is another bright side for me. My old Cruiser had premium insurance. So, not only did I already have almost half a million ISK on hand, I also got compensated over 3 million ISK for the loss of my ship. This allowed me to buy an even better Gallente Cruiser called "The Vexor".
How strange. The only way to get your hands on a better ship is to loss one in battle.
