Hi.  I've seen an aircraft I'd like but it's a rar file not zip.   Can XP deal with rar files or does it need some special application?
The aircraft is a Miles Gemini at Classic British Files.com & I don't know what a rar file is!
Cheers,
Terry.

RAR is a sort of super-ZIP for lack of better comparison.

In order to work with it, you will need to download a program called WinRAR (google it), XP will not handle RAR files on its own. The basics are the same, it's just RAR is not as convenient.

i believe the freeware/opensource 7zip also can handle with .rar and most other compression formats.

A real classic. Been waiting years for one of these. Thanks for the heads-up. Smiley

I use WinRAR to decompress the files. Just download the free one. It will start bugging you to buy it after a certain number of uses but it doesn't affect how you unzip. Great little program. Wink

Thanks for the download info.  I got WinRAR but it came with no instructions about use & it took me over an hour to accidentally get my Gemini unwrapped.     I'll avoid RAR files like the plague if it's this difficult to use!

I hope you enjoy the Gemini Hagar.  Monty's Messenger is a real gem too
as is the Airspeed Oxford which lands like a dream  Cheesy

Thanks Terry. I got quite a few classics while I was there. No idea why the Gemini should be in RAR format as all the other downloads are zips. Extracting RAR files should be easy enough. First install WinRar then right-click on the file & select "Extract to .............."
I use the same method for extracting zipfiles with WinZip or ALZip.

Hagar - you're the wizard & I but the mere monkey without the grinder (NO organ comments please!!)  but I did find the Gemini difficult to trim.  How's yours?  Oh - isn't the sound great?!!

She does tend to fly a bit tail down but no problems once you trim it out. Note the RPM gauges are on the engine cowlings. There's a clickable trim gauge on the 2D panel. I miss my old Saitek X36 combo with rotary trim wheels which made trimming so easy.

The internal sound's fine, not convinced about the external though. A few minor criticisms like the transparent prop texture (same as on the Messenger) & shape of the engine nose cowlings but it's not bad at all. We finally have a Gemini & Messenger for FS9. Cool

Hi Fozz.

I'm enjoying the Messenger too, but why have you got a pilot and I haven't?

Do what I do:

Open up the file by double clicking it (have to do this or it won't work)
And then drag the folder to the desktop.

I don't see how that's so hard. Wink
