Lets see em guys.
Can Lewis win it on home soil? or will it be another walk in the park for the red cars? Or could the traditional british weather throw a surprise winner into the mix?

ENTRIES CLOSE AT 1200 BST SATURDAY

Raikkonen
Massa
Hamilton

I hope Lewis can beat at least one red car, but I can't honestly see it. It could be either Massa or Raikkonen for the win but I reckon Kimmi will be more up for it after the last race.

I think it will be a walk in the park for the silver cars Cheesy

Would be good if we have some usual british weather, spice things up a bit!

According to the Met Office there is the possibility of heavy showers during the day on Saturday.... so qualifying could be really interesting. In the light of that I'm going to hold off putting down a prediction until Friday.  Grin Grin
The weather prediction for Sunday is wet and windy ......but as yet no detail so it could be an even more interesting race.  Grin Grin

My selections

Massa
Lewis
Kimi

I sort of think Lewis might win this one, but little Massa is on a role and if he can take a firm hold of the title race in the next 2 or 3 races Ferrari and Kimi will back him to the end, as repayment for last year.

You really think so? Im suprised at that! Then, thinking about it, they may well do, as when Alonso arrives there either 2009 or 2010, Massa (if hes still around) will  be in 'Barrichello mode' and it may be his last chance.

But i just dont see Kimi moving over for him in the same way Massa did in brazil last year, unless its that close at the season end.

Also, Kimi was some way behind at this point last season - 17 points was it? Silverstone seemed to be the turning point i guess, after Massas stall/gear selection issus or whatever on the grid..

But now Massa is ahead, if they were going to back him, nows the time. But i just cant see it, not at all.....sorry! Cheesy

Wont be upto Kimi so much as it will be a team decision.
They've already said and Kimi has said that they'll Back Massa if it becomes clear that he's the best shot to win the title.
Still not sure where this Alonso to ferrari thing is coming from, latest rumor from the paddock is that Alonso has signed a long term deal at Honda to partner Button from possibly next year maybe 2010.

Kimi has said that has he? Hmm thats interesting. But then i do get the feeling from what ive read that Kimis won his title and its only a matter of time before he calls it a day, so maybe i guess hes not too botherd - seeing how his form has yo-yo'd over the season. If hed been dominant from the start, then maybe it might be different...?

The honda thing i read in autosport the other week - it was a good read, and it would also be interesting to see how he fared against Button....obviously we dont know what Honda or any other team may have in store for next season with the regs changing, but if it is Honda he goes to, it must be somthing pretty convincing......Renault some weeks ago where already trying to find reasons to make him stay, so somthing has happend, thats for sure.

Although it is only rumour, i still wonder if somthing happend at monaco with Alonso and Ferrari, Kimi was blatantly 'off form' that day and i wonder if it was all down to 'car set up' and 'heating the tyres up' - i guess i may be reading to much into it, but maybe somthing else unsettled Kimi? Maybe a descision was made for him then much the same way it was made for Mr Schumacher, strangley by the arrival of Kimi?

The only reason i wonderd is that id read about similar occasions, mainly Mansell in 1992, suddenly missing apexes and being all over the place, in a season when he was generaly the force to be reckoned with, around the time he discoverd Prost had indeed signed for Williams months before!

Probably wrong though, but thought it mention it!  Cheesy

It's possible.

Monty like to waffle on about ferrari's loyalty and passion, but the reality is, Monty himself likes to stab his drivers in the back when a new flavor of the month comes along.

slightly concerned would be my assesment of ferrari. I think Kimi is in a position to pick up the win if Kovi has any problems, but I'd say, if he doesn't then this is his race. And quite deservedly so. Last week at the tests he looked like he was the fastest out there, all through practice he's looked quick and today again he's just blown everyone away. If Massa want's to keep his title lead in tact, he'll need to show he's really stepped up his game. Doesn't need to win, just needs a good showing, a 4th place is possible if he doesn't get held up.
Lewis cracked under the presure again.

The big question is, does Mark Webber have enough fuel to make it round for the parade lap? I hope i'm wrong tomorrow, but I think its a bit annoying that both Renault and now red bull seem to be going for these super low fuel qualy's just to out-do each other, because come race day, they do nothing but get in the way of the top two teams and inevitably hold one of them up for the majority of the first stint.

Time to get rid of all the silly regulations then. A single 1hr quali session, after which the teams can put as much fuel as they like in.

Do away with refueling all together. No reason why it can't be done. Been done in the past with these things.
That way we have our 1hr session on low fuel like the old days. The grid is assembled in the order it should be.
Then get rid of this two tyre rule. Let the teams choose their tyres. If some want to run the whole race on softs then why not. Others on hard tyres and so on. Lose the white stripe as well. Nobody cares quite honestly. The idea was fine but in practice it's become the same old story and the novelty has worn off.
And finally get rid of the stupid 19,000 rpm limit.
This alone is a huge reason there is no overtaking, adding a stupid power boost button wont make a differance if the car is hitting the limit like it does now. There is no need for it. And it would also add in the element of risk taking for teams. Do you run the risk of running at higher rev's for the race and quali at the expense of possible reliability problems.
This whole cost cutting thing is a bunch of rubbish. It's supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport and Bernie/Max wont be happy untill its nothing more than another single make series with identicle cars that bore the crap out of everyone watching.

.........and now back to our North East Lincolnshire studio. Grin

Dont know wether it will dry out or if its stopped, but for the GP2 race this morning it chucked it down in the later stages, although it was wet throughout. Great race though!

Does anyone know quite what the ferraris were doing in qualifying? I know Massa had that shunt and its probably set him back a bit, but they just didnt seem quick. Slight wet set up maybe?

Massa obviously had something to celebrate judging by the number of doughnuts he did.

1min 8 seconds. Not a bad winning margin. Should've done better... Grin

Indeed, very well driven by Lewis. The season just got interesting.
Trulli a star, only for the fact he did keep it on the track.
Ferrari, no shock there, its become clear over the last year or two, when it comes time to make a decision, they dont have the drivers or tacticians to take a chance. Massa could have picked up a point if he would have taken the chance on full wets right from the start of that heavy shower, when Rubens took the switch.
Poor Kovi, doesn't ever seem to want to work for him..

Rubens has to be my driver of the day though. that car is an absolute dog and he just drove a perfect race.

Got to give it to him for the move on Alonso. How many times had Alonso taken that line to ultimately get through Luffield quicker? Then he takes the "normal" line whilst Heikki goes the long way round! Grin

Indeed, it was a good move, I think something finally clicked and he showed the aggressiveness he's been missing.

'Having a slow weekend'!!!

Too right. Yet again the team that used to win all the races like this, fails to make the right desicions......

Awesome display from 'cracked under pressure' Hamilton, ive no doubt though over on autosport they will find some reason to bash him Roll Eyes

And massa, if anyone cracked under pressure, it has to be him. What an awful day he had.

Nice one from Barrichello, good to see him back on the podium.

66 seconds! Ferrari, sort yourselves out! Cheesy

To be fair, had Kimi not been left out on old tyres it wouldn't have been 66 seconds. And Had Rubens been filled to the end I think he may have given Mclaren a lot to worry about..
Lewis drove a great race, but his victory margin came down to circumstance and decisions that were made. I said in my prediction post I thought he might have done it, shame I didn't go with my gut feeling.
Here's to Germany, I think things will be back to normal.

maybe so but we will never know. Later in the race, when they were on similar tyres after the second stops, Hamiltons pace was somtimes several seconds faster than anyone else!

Barrichello could have won this race, moreso than Kimi, i think, if we go down the 'if' and 'but' route.

Hamilton mentioned in the PC that Barrichello overtook him - although i dont recall seeing that? When did it happen? Just before Barrichellos last stop? Or After Hamiltons second stop?

I dont think Kimi could have won the race at all. I just think it would have been closer.
Barrichello passed Lewis a couple of laps after he stopped for wet tyres, he was a lap down and something like 8 seconds a lap faster. Got him going down hangar straight, thats why I thought at that point Massa had nothing to lose. If Rubens was that quick and a lap down, Massa being in a simmilar situation could have salvaged some points.
Again I dont think Rubens could have beaten Lewis, but certain put him and Mclaren in a position with 10 laps to go, of certainly having to push a bit more than he was by that point.
As you say though its all if's and buts, all of which wont change the result. It was a really good race, and a shame that we dont get more like that.

Now they used to say that whoever was leading the championship after the British GP, usually went on to win the title - given the current points standings I think we could be in a corker of 2nd half.

Way to go Lewis! Nice to see the kid win one at home! It sure was nice to get to see this race in HD for once.... here in the states, they usually have it on "speed" channel which is not hd. Not to mention all they ever show when F1 isnt on is Nascrap. Back to the race.... being that I work for American Honda.... I give a big well done to Rubens!
