-you won't overclock it by much =.
Basically, when you start it up - press the delete key and you will enter the BIOS. Poke around the BIOS and you may find you can increase the speed of the cpu in there.

Google it is another approach - omebody somewhere has done it already and has written on overclocking.

Changing your graphics card to a good one is yet anouther aproach and may pay best dividends. you want to good one for a full powered boost.

E6600 overclocked to 3400. Asus P5N E sli with 3GB memory, Vista and 7900GS vid card. new Pro Yoke and pedals

There's really nowhere to go on this setup. To get noticeable performance gain out of the X2 3800s, you have to REALLY push them.. well past the type of clocking you could do on that m-board, and with the stock RAM, that Gateway would use. And even if you could, that video adapter is already a bottleneck. Speeding up the CPU would be like increasing the water behind the dam.. only so much will flow through.

A better video card is your best bet.. but go easy there, too. Something like an 8800GTS is a lot of card to put on top of 4 year old CPU technology... though they are reasonably priced now (IF that board has a PCIe slot)

I got my first 8800GTS SSC w/640 DDR3 for a little over 300.00 USD back in January. My second card I got yesterday was 179.00 plus 20.00 instant rebate. Ya, they went down quite a bit. I figured if I was going to run SLI I better get a identical card now before they didn't make them anymore Wink

My problem exactly. I'd like to go 3-way SLi with my present set-up, but 8800GTS cards of the 640Mb variety are getting scarce. They cost around $450-- if you can find one. They were released for sale in April 2004-- an eternity in the past when it comes to the age of anything electronic and computer-related...

My system: AMD Phenom 9500 cpu, 2 x eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS Superclocked vidcards (640Mb DDR3 each), Zalman "sunflower" 9700 fan, Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 mobo, 4Gb G.Skill PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 2 x Sony 20X DVD writers, Thermaltake Toughpower 850W modular p/s, 7 x 120mm fans, Windows XP Home and SP3, 2 x 250Gb Western Digital SATA-300 HDs (1 for apps, 1 for storage and precious files backup), CoolerMaster CM 690 case, NOD-32. Won't run FSX. Locks up a lot with FS9, too.
