Judge's Choice Harold winners: A storm is approaching so I'm just giving the field totally to Harold to announce the winners in this tribute comp. He doesn't need my help anyway.  Smiley

Here's a little reminder, as it's a tribute, results follow:

“ Remembering Shaun”

...

Judge Harold says:

[size=24] "As you may or may not be aware, Shaun Lunt - one of the most imaginative bush pilots and a great inspiration to me - was killed two weeks ago, when his Super Cub stalled and crashed while he was looking at a whale skeleton near Jacksmith Bay, about 425 miles west of Anchorage. You can find more information here.

Shaun was only 33 years old ... we'll miss him."
I don't want this to be just a 'competition'. I'd like you to pay a tribute to Shaun, by entering the prettiest Piper Cub shot you can create. It should of course be set in Alaska or British Columbia. Anything goes as long as it is not a composite.

For inspiration I suggest that you check Shaun's weblog - it is amazing!

Thank you all for so many great entries! I really had a hard time deciding which one captured the feeling best: low and slow, between the trees, skimming the water and smelling a mix of kerosine, salmon and bear poo. I kept looking back at all the great shots that Shaun shared with us and finally made my choice.

Hopefully Shaun is enjoying them too from up there ...

1. Martijn (Souichiro): Most excellent composition and great coloring! I love the way the colors of the Cub go very well with that baby blue sky, those semi transparent clouds, those snow covered ranges and that typical bright, early spring like green valleys. Not to mention that great Cub model!

...

2. Simon (Todayshorse): A very sweet edit which has that typical 60's/70's era, over-saturated and over-exposed photograph feel to it that has become signature to Simon. Besides his repaints I really like his editing style a lot. Though a Cub is really slow, the slightly blurred image gives it a bit of a sense of speed.

...

3. Nick (ndude737): It hasn't even been a year since Nick joined us and he already showed us some awesome screenart! This one is no exception and I - for one - really like those trees in the foreground! It's like I'm standing between the trees and seeing him fly right by me. Those clouds look very Alaska en those snow covered mountain ranges in the background are a very nice contrast with the yellow Cub.

...

Thanks for all the entries guys, hopefully JC Soui will be up either tomorrow or Sat.

Cheers

Hey Tom

This shot http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/Tompaymonthwinjan08.jpg

has already been posted and won the Jan. 2008 screen-shot contest. It's in the Studio V Gallery. Doesn't it have to be a new shot? Just asking.

No, it can't be an old shot!
The purpose for the contest is to create a theme that the judge elects then the people create the shot!

What would be the fun of going through old folders and posting a shot that was already taken..
Hell if I did that, why even enter?

Indeed, I've read Shaun's blog before, what a life he must have lead. A very sad loss Cry

Well, here's my entry to your competition Harold:

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/cjch.jpg

EDIT - Ah, seems I too overstepped the "it must be set in Alaska or BC" rule, if you don't mind Harold could I put another shot together and enter it?

Well this ones a tricky one! First thought of repainting the cub, but the paintkit is just ridiculous!. Thought maybe an all over chrome cub would be nice and different, but that didnt really work how i planned!

Anyway, i settled on this, and this is indeed my entry!

A sad loss indeed, I've been admiring his blog before, and he had some stunning shots!

One of the things I like about (flying in) Alaska is its size. It's HUGE! It shows how small and insignificant we really are, just a wee speck in an enormous expanse of nature...Shaun showed that really well in some of his shots..

I'll have multiple shots to post, as I doubt that one shot can exemplify a loss of a human life, yet only one will be my entry.

I should have them by the end of the night.

Alaska... It's such a vast area. I chose to enter this shot because it gave me the feeling peace and wonder at the beauty of our Earth. I think Harold's friend would have liked it.

I don't mind Charlie this is not the 'official' screenshot contest but I would want Roger's input on this one. I don't want to set a precedent here.
I'll ask Roger to look into this too ...

Yeah it is isn't it Simon? I'm amazed that Aerosoft (the masters of great add-ons) supplies such a poor paintkit for such a great model.
Thinking about it ... we could do one together, couldn't we?

Hey that is nice effort on the repaint! I've tried if myself but I ended up in the bush!
Minor detail: that is a standard wheel PA-18 whereas Shaun's Cub was an L-21 equipped with tundra tyres ...

Very cool effort indeed, but why so small? You can have a shot that is 1024 wide and a 150 kilobytes in filesize.
What are your issues with compression? Maybe I can be of assistance?

About the 'wrong' posts from Spyro and Ferrari - it's Harold's comp so it's really up to him. This is a small-scale comp, no prizes are at stake so if you post something not according to his rules and he lets it in then it's up to him...

...the only thing that WOULD be unacceptable is people moaning that it's 'not fair'. Obviously, if everyone just posted whatever they felt like there wouldn't be a point in the judge setting the rules for the comp at all... but so far in over a year there hasn't been a problem so it really is up to Harold and the competitors good judgement. Lovely shots by the way!!

One thing I must do though is change the deadline!!

I've just realised I'm leaving on holiday on Sunday, so to get the next JC comp up I need the stuff Saturday night... so this competition will have to end on THURSDAY!! Competitors please be ready -in the event of winning - to submit some comp shots on Friday, or Sat at the latest - check the forum to see if you've won late Thurs (GMT)...thanks... Sorry about that guys!

Say Roger

How and where does the winner send the pics and information to you?  Your email address is not available. Does he upload the pic files and send the links in a PM to you. What exactly is the procedure. I'm asking this as this is the first time I've entered this contest.  I never win anything, but you never know.  Grin

Cheers TH, that's it.... the Judge just sends the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place pics, sometimes with a sentence for each saying why they liked it, via PM to me, and I change it into a 'winners thread' and write to the winner to say they've won. It's terribly exciting!!  Cheesy

No but I think this is a great comp and I'm glad I can 'do my bit' to help this little corner of SimV flourish...

Can you see my halo glowing?

Cheesy

Ah, seems I too overstepped the "it must be set in Alaska or BC" rule, if you don't mind Harold could I put another shot together and enter it?

I don't mind Charlie this is not the 'official' screenshot contest but I would want Roger's input on this one. I don't want to set a precedent here.
I'll ask Roger to look into this too ...

Ferrari308guy wrote on Jun 27th, 2008 at 7:55pm:
I guess that doesn't count.

The same goes for you as for Charlie. I'll check with Roger too ...

Charlie, Ferrari, I'll allow and update of your shot for now. Please remember the Alaska / British Columbia rule this time Wink
This doesn't mean that the others can update their shots too! It is because you two asked to replace your shots as they didn't comply with 'the rules'.
I believe in giving a second chance but I'm not eager to make this a rule rather than an exception ...

Good luck guys and please remember the new deadline Roll Eyes

Hey Harold,

Just to let you know, I'm not going to have enough time to take another shot for this competition. So, I'll just have to wait it out for the next Judges Choice! Thanks for your kindness.
