For my birthday, I am getting the Abacus: 787 Dreamliner, A380, and the Airbus fleet. Does anyone else have any of these planes, if so what are they like?

I also had a look at their planes but got only negatives when I posted in payware about em.

They have a fly before you buy policy meaning you may fly their models for 7 days free.

I tried that and must say, I have plenty of freeware planes of equal/better quality.

But again they are cheap, low on FPS hits. Maybe the only advantage IMO.

Rather fork out a little extra for better quality.

It's something that is freeware quality, but you're paying for it. Well, if you're getting it as a gift, then I suppose you're not paying for it, but all the same. You would be much better off buying just one decent addon from somewhere like Flight1 instead of getting 3 garbage addons from Abacus.

Just FYI, this post is totally opinionated  Cheesy.

For another opinionated post, I've had those models for a long time.  I like them, because they satisfy *my* jetliner needs.

I do waulify that I am not a "tin sausage" driver, so these are perfect when I feel the urge to deviate from the norm...

The only thing I ever purchased from Abacus was Flight Deck 3.  I ended up deleting all the aircraft (there were much better freewares, even three years ago), and just keeping the carriers.  Since then I avoid Abacus.  If I'm going to pay for an aircraft, I want quality.

The problem with postings like this is there is no definition of better. One mans meat is another mans poison so to speak. An awful lot of people do not want to be bogged down by half an hour start up procedures and Abacus (and other publishers) cater to that need.

So come on guys stop knocking producers and publishers because they don't model to your taste.

It wasn't the procedures or complexity of the aircraft I had a problem with, it was the quality of the models.  The modelling was outdated, as were the panels.  There are freeware aircraft, that are just as easy to fly and operate, and look 100% better.

It was actually a gift from a well intentioned relative.  Sorry Felix.  Wink

I personally like FS planes which have : Cockpit, doesn't have to be a very good one, I don't use FMC; virtual cockpit; custom sound packages; not too hard flight dynamics, and reasonably good textures and model. For me, Abacus has all these.

And thats great!

But for developers/publishers to expect nothing but praise is slightly unrealisitic i feel. I dont like Vauxhall Motor cars in general but i dont write to there head ofice and praise them for making cars that maybe dont tailor to my needs but for people who like cars that are in my view low quality and dont handle very well, they are great and thanks very much! do i???

If you sell somthing that you have made/developed/built/whatever, then you should expect praise and critique from the paying masses no matter what it is...

No one is asking for praise for products you don't think are very good, but the general panning that Abacus seem to suffer seems a little lopsided to me. Yes they have fairly generic cockpits yes they may (or have in the past used generic engine sounds, but they fulfil the beginners (and many others) expectations and do not scare them off with accurate but overly complex systems and procedures. In short it is horses for courses.
