I don't know where it came from but I have an urge to learn computer code.

Where should I start reading up? What should I do?

You may want to start with HTML and basic web page design just to get used to writing code, then move on to Visual Basic.

I started at C++ which although isnt the easiest language, is powerful and a good all round code.

www.cplusplus.com has tutorials I think

I have a SAMs book on C++ (learn in 24 hours. Obviously a lie as I have been working with it for months)

But of course, it all depends on what you want to produce.

I tried to download Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition but it doesn't seem to want to install. I can't get it to even install the .NET framework 5.xxx or something.

I'll try to download and install C++ programing tomorrow.
