Ah, I am SURE I have seen a SAC repaint of the CLS KC-10, are there any out there, and if so, where? Smiley

ANYONE out there know of a Strategic Air Command (grey/white/blue) repaint for the CLS KC-10? Stormtropper even posted screenshots of a SAC paint a while back..

If someone could find me the paint (serial number of the KC-10 was 20191 if that helps) I would be grateful!  Smiley

Probably sticking my neck on the block here Grin But if you cant find it (and i certainly cant after a quick search) i just happen to have the CLS DC-10 with the included repaint kit - although i can see how to convert it a frieghter, i cant quite see how youd do the KC-10's extra bits unless they are somewhere i havent looked yet.

Ive come across a few pictures of what i think your after, and it looks quite simple though i havent seen the front of the thing only the rear and the side -  so id certainly have a bash at it if you still cant find it, if your interested and i can figure the KC-10 bits out if they are there!

I actually wanted to use the SAC paint for your JC contest..heh.

Seems like to much trouble to create a paint when there IS one (somewhere...) already made, and also, only when one person wants it. Might just use standard USAF low-vis for my entry. Wink

I see one listed elsewhere, but judging from the screenshots, the repaint is not that good. The only other one I see is for an AI KC-10. But then again, the AA in the screenshot was pretty bad, so that may have had something to do with it.

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

Um.......well i had a go anyway, knocked this up this morning. The first two are my first attempts, and the others are of it almost done....very easy, and i had my 're-paint' head on this morning so i thought what the hell!

I quite like it anyway, for my own use if anything!!!!

It suits the KC-10 very nicely!!! Only thing im stuck on its the diagonal line in the center of the fuselage, ive got the SAC insignia, but no real good pictures of whats on the stripe, although i think its stars of some description!!!

Seems a shame they dont still use these colours, but i guess its not quite suited for operations, or do they use it in peace time?

Sorry for blowing my own trumpet Grin

Man, that looks really good! Get that stripe on there, and you should definitely upload that repaint. I know I'd get it!

Thanks m8!

I rustled together a 'stripe' using various sized stars from an american flag - a bit of artistic licence used because even blowing up the pictures of the real thing its hard to see how its laid out!

Also the engine textures are from the PMDG 747, because the CLS has no engine .psd in the repaint kit! So i had to paint the PMDG's CF engines, add the layers of dirt and so on, then get the shape from the CLS .bmps, cut it out and paste on the CLS...seems to have worked ok!

So, here we go! Just some bits under the fuselage to sort out, and i will upload it  so if anyone wants it its there!

Ahhh yea, that looks great! I will download it, and Im sure many others will too!

Working on some screenies right now involving another tanker, and something sorta big. Not a huge plane, but decently sized!

Todayshorse, you are a wizard! I'll certainly download it.  On the banner, if I remember right, the stars were more or less random size and placement.  I think that may have varied through the years.

(Boikat, of the time when "In SAC, nobody can hear you scream" was a common saying.  Wink  )

Geez, you just knocked this up!?!?!

Thank you SO much, I can go ahead with my original idea for your contest now! And the SAC sash is a nice touch. Wink

I can tell you, that the grey/white/blue is no longer used.

The SAC paint was worn by the XB-70, the C-141, the C-5 and the KC-10.
It was withdrawn from service in the 80's, and the C-141 and C-5 were then painted European 1 (Lizard).

KC-135s and KC-10s were painted in Orca (known affectionately to air crew as Green Shamu).
Today, the C-141, C-5, KC-135 and KC-10 are all painted in USAF low-viz gunship grey.

The KC-10 also spawned a scheme called 'Great White,' which is SAC grey/white/blue with a shark mouth. This scheme was only ever worn by the KC-10.

Thank you so much, again, and expect an entry from me with this paint for your contest. Smiley
