Hi Pete!

Smiley

After un-zipping the zipped folder, the usual folders (Model, panel, sound, testure) are all empty, except for a read me and a thumbnail in the texture file, and it's also missing the .air file.  Tried twice, same results. (If I try again, it would be a sign of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result...)

http://www.simviation.com/members/fsxhelicopters5.htm

Downloaded the a109a to make sure I was stomping my right foot at the right download and unzip frequency, and it unzipped and it was normal (works great, and so on).

Tia, sorry to be a bother.

I tested this as we've had problems with some of these FS9 addons.

It says 'See readme for unusual install details!'

The folders & files are very odd in this download and it will install if you do this.

That's exactly what I did (I learned early and often to read the "Read Me").  No AS 350 in "Select Aircraft" page in the sim. Then I checked the folders, and they are empty and the .air file is missing.

...

...

...

I downloaded the file several times, just in case it was some fluke, but got the same results.  See the firtst post on the consequences of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Shocked

Maybe I'm ready for the nut-house?  I hope they have ice-cream. Cheesy

Is this download derived from the FS9 download, here (Top of page)?

http://www.simviation.com/members/fs2004helicopters9.htm

I couldn't find a FS9 AS 350BA

(I added a thumb to it, and it works just fine in FSX.)

Anyway, Off to see Indiana Jones and the Kindom of the Crystal Skull.   Smiley

What zip program is that? It looks horrible! ....  Huh Cheesy - I can't see what you have done at all ----  (I use IZArk - almost same as winzip but totally free)

The problem is there are 2 sets of folders almost identical -one inside the other - the aircraft.cfg is set to locate files outside it's folder(v.unusual) - so you MUST move the 1st FSXAS 350BA folder - not the one with the same name inside that one ..... into simobjects\airplanes

It does work because I tested it myself - It's a great chopper!!

I don't know what to say.  I use whatever un-zip utility comes with Vista.  It has unzipped every file I've downloaded with no problems. But in this particular case, the .air file is missing, all folders are empty except for the "Documentation" folder, which has a PDF file, and the texture folder, which only contains the thumbnail.jpg, no BMPs.  I've opened every folder, all of them, and they are empty, with the exceptions mentioned above.   I installed *exactly* per directions in the "Read Me".

FSX Eurocopter AS350 Package

IMPORTANT: FSX Install.

This aircraft does not install like others.

Put whole folder FSXAS 350BA into Simobjects\Rotorcraft. Look under 'Eurocopter' and you will find it.

FSX Comments

Comments.

Gauges/VC: All seem OK. Allow gauges if prompted.

Glass:   -  visible. Seems full FSX compatible!

All else seems OK. This is a great helicopter

This aircraft is not modified in any way. Full credit to the great talents of the original designer

FSX Compatible & tested. Thumbnails added.

I found this great helo in my FS2004 collection & as it works fine in my FSX SP2 I have tested it & added thumbnail to make it easier for FSX users.

Nothing could be simpler.

The one you tested was downloaded from the site, right?

If so, it's prossibly some "Vista Mystery" caused by my machine.  For some unknown reason, it's not extracting that *particular* file correctly.  I guess I'll have to settle for the GMAX from the FS9 heli page 9, mentoned above.  It works and looks great too, and had 5 textures. Smiley

Sorry to be a bother

The .air file is there - but it's inside the folder inside the folder so you must install as I've said - it puzzled me too when I 1st tried ....

If it's any consolation I downloaded the file (all 83.8 Mb of it) & installed it according to the instructions. It's not listed on the selection menu.

The author claims that "this aircraft has not been modified in any way". A simple thumbnail has been addded for FSX yet the file is over double the size of the original posted in the FS9 section. http://www.simviation.com/fs2004helicopters38.htm
The whole thing appears to have been duplicated with one complete aircraft inside another one. I cannot understand why this has been configured in the way it has. It seems totally unnecessary to me.

PS. I now understand why Boikat can't see any files in the folders. They're all configured as Hidden files.

FS9: Oh, goody, an installation wizard, written in French.   Cheesy

That's the weirdest looking installation I've ever seen.

Set to view hidden files and folders.  I should be able to un-twist it.

Thanks guys!   Smiley

Likewise. I have no idea why it was configured like this but it appears to work. There might be problems if you wish to add repaints. The FS9 version should work in FSX but several gauges are incompatible.

I don't know which Eurocopter Pete has installed but there is no way the file posted in the FSX section will work in any version of MSFS without modification. After I edited the Aircraft.cfg file & deleted two complete sets of Model, Panel, Sound & Texture folders it now works in FSX just like the original. This has also reduced the file size considerably. The same FS98-style gauges are included in both versions.

I don't know if I'm going to mess with this one too much at the moment.  Besides, the AS 350 at the top of FS9 heli's page 9 has 5 paints pretty good paints, works good enough in FSX after adding thumbnails to the texture files. The 2d panel isn't much to write home about, and neither is the VC, but all in all, I'll trade making thumbs to banging my head against the wall any day.   Wink

That's fine. I was also trying to make Pete aware of this as you won't be the only one to have problems with this file.

To elaborate, I've reposted Pete's shot showing how to install it according to the Readme instructions.

...

Note the folder name is FSXAS 350BA
If you open either included Aircraft.cfg in Notepad you will see this;

[fltsim.0]
title="AS 350BA Ecureuil FSpainter"
sim="AS 350BA\AS350BA"
model="..\..\..\AS 350BA\AS 350BA"
panel="..\..\..\AS 350BA\AS 350BA"
sound="..\..\..\AS 350BA\AS 350BA"
texture="..\..\..\AS 350BA\AS 350BA"

Note that the path is directed to a folder in the Rotorcraft directory named AS 350BA which does not exist. For FSX to recognise it you can either rename the FSXAS 350BA folder in the above shot to AS 350BA or modify the path in Aircraft.cfg like this;

[fltsim.0]
title="AS 350BA Ecureuil FSpainter"
sim="AS 350BA\AS350BA"
model="..\..\..\FSXAS 350BA\AS 350BA"
panel="..\..\..\FSXAS 350BA\AS 350BA"
sound="..\..\..\FSXAS 350BA\AS 350BA"
texture="..\..\..\FSXAS 350BA\AS 350BA"

That worked. Smiley, thanks, Hagar and Pete!

Much easier to change the name of the folder to AS 350AB

Thanks Doug!

Whatever happened I was flying this aircraft before uploading it. I must have somehow messed it up ...  Roll Eyes Sorry!!

... though I didn't alter anything - so maybe I didn't ...

I am now uploading a corrected version.

You're a gem!!
