I'm in progress to upgrade my simpit to have a dedicated 17" display for gauges.

I'm planning to mount the monitor into plywood panel - but I'm out of ideas how to do it. Can you share your designs?

The first thing to consider is taking the TFT out of its case. I lucked out with mine; it had enough of a subframe to allow me to fit it right in there. Later I'll make some sort of bezel for it, and mount the controls somehow so I can get at them fairly easily (once I tweak the picture, it'll just be for on/off, so it may be hidden under the panel).

I'm way behind on updating my website, but here's a couple of sneak previews: the front and rear of the LCD installation. Note that I slipped a piece of sheet plastic between the screen and the panel temporarily to protect it...
I will probably neaten everything up later (including clearing out the sawdust, LOL).

It still works (LOL), and it breathes easy, having no case anymore.

If that makes you nervous, just figure out a way to add cleats or something top the back of the panel, cut a hole that matches the dimensions of the screen, and mount it as snug as you can to the back of the plywood. Be sure to not cover any vents the display may have.

piggington,

Hi and welcome to SimV and the Hombuild forum section.

Get some aluminum bar stock, maybe 1" wide or so by maybe 3/16" to 1/4" thick.  Also get some thick "1/2 to 3/4" foam self adhesive weatherstripping.

Bend the aluminum bar stock so that it forms a bracked that is sort of the like the greek "omega" symbol.....but with the profile of the monitor's reverse side in mind.  The two legs on the sides of the monitor need to flare out at 90 degrees to the sides.  Drill holes in these flared legs to attach to the plywood panel frame.  Line the aluminum with the foam.  Test fit it so that it is snug, but not "crushing" anything.

The bracket sort of looks like this below from the side:

Hope that was clearer than mud.  Wink

I took the front off my monitors so the screen would be flush with the backside of my panels then I laid them flat on some plywood and traced round them.  I duplicated that line about an inch or so wider so when I cut both lines (and chopped out the top to give it flex) I had a plywood frame that fitted the outside of the monitor. Six small metal braces on each corner stop the montior sliding out but make it really easy to undo and extract it if I need to (four on thet back but two on the bottom of the front. The MIP obviously holds it in place at the top).

My one tip would be be really careful adding things to your panels once you have the monitors mounted. It's far too easy to use a screw that's a bit to long and risk driving it through the panel into the flat screen behind (No I haven't done it. Yet...)

Thanks for the ideas! I'll post pictures as soon as I have time to work with the pit and get something done.
