Im new to repainting....so just some simple questions so i can complete what im trying to acheive with somewhat limited skills!!

All im after doing is changing the brightness of a blue colour on an aircraft.

Using dxt.bmp, i tested my skills on the default cessna, opening with dxt.bmp, sending to PS, changing some of the colours using the wand thing and basicaly filling in over the old colour with my new colour, opacity around 45% so that panel lines and so on are still visible.

I then saved, reloaded in dxt.bmp and saved into the cessna texture folder, of which i had created a new one. I did all three or four textures like this, alterd the cfg and hey presto! it worked and appeared in fs9.

The aircraft im really wanting this to work on however is a fs2002 aircraft. Im unsure what format i should save my edited .bmps as 32bit made fs9 crash, 24bit made them not show up at all although the aircraft model itself did show!

I guess im doing somthing wrong, and it would be easier to use the paint kit with the fs2004 model but try as i might i just cant seem to get the hang of re-painting from scratch!

When you have finished in PS save in 24 bit..if you save in 32 FS will crash.

Then call into DXT bmp and save as extended bitmap 32Bit 888-8 for quality or DXT3 for performance.

Make sure the mip box is uncheck or they will usually be blurred

Cheers for the very quick reply Garry, i think youve just saved me from throwing my PC out of the window!!! All day ive been faffing with this!

Think ive cracked it following those instructions, although i had the mips thing checked i fear......

Going to have another go as they do indeed look a little blurred, although ive got the colour how i wanted it!

Im guessing its beyond the scope of what im doing to add some more 'shine' and maybe thats for another day, as i can see myself getting horribly hooked on this until i figure out how to repaint myself Grin

Thanks once again Smiley

A pleasure Wink

Best thing to to make a few basic changes, a bit of colour as you have...perhaps change the registration and get it into the sim and flying

Once you've done that a few times and are happy then just build up from there.

The problem you have catches quite a few out at first

If you do save with the mips checked then just re-save with it unchecked and it will be fine.

You are not doing anything to the BMP itself just the way it displays.
