Alright, sorry to have been a little slow, here are the winners for Judge Gabe!

He says…

Wow!  What an amazing set of shots!
I sat here for a long time trying to decide which one could possibly be the best...I finally decided on….

1st Place – Double Farvel

...

That sunset picture is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful
(if you find another way to describe it go ahead but that's about as good as I can get!).

2nd Place – Ferrari308guy

...

Awesome clouds around the mountain...looks great!
(A second runners-up placing in as many competitions…
...could we be looking at a new champ soon?)

3rd Place – Cloud9

...

Thats actually quite a scary picture!
Can you imagine seeing that?!

Thanks!

FSgt Gabe

Double Farvel has been informed, and the new comp should be up by Thursday night..

As always, thanks to all for competing in this great little comp!!

Cool, I'll take a shot at this.

Question: I know it says payware aircraft are allowed, but what about payware weather programs allowed like Active Sky?

I suspect that payware might keep me out of the running but went looking in my .bmp files and found this:

Payware aircraft I can deal with as many freeware planes are nearly as good. But for something like this, where weather is the focal point, wouldn t those that have programs for weather (Active Sky) be an unfair advantage? There are so many different types of aircraft out there, freeware and payware that it can be competitive. Those of us that just have default FSX/2004 etc... cant get the cloud formations and such that Active Sky provides. I may be completely off here, but those are just my thoughts. Will still enter either way.

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

I'm going to give it a shot as well, but that's what I was wondering too  Huh.

Hi there - just writing to clarify in answer to your questions:

Yes, payware (all of which is allowed) will always give anl 'unfair advantage'.... ...as will use of photoshop which is also allowed.  SmileyHowever, to get good pics out of FSX and even FS9 you need to spend a lot of money on a decent computer. People without that money (I was one of them for years) are also at an 'unfair disadvantage'.

In my opinion, to spend 1000 dollars on a rig that will play FSX/FS9 without jaggies and stuttering, and then not spend 30 dollars on a decent weather graphics programme to make FSX/FS9 look its best is a bit silly, but my opinion's not important here  Grin

What is important is that Studio V is about improving and enjoying screenshots without worrying about rules. If you want to produce good screenshots you have to invest time, both to learn the skillz and to make money to improve your sim, that's the bottom line. I work my butt off and plough some of that into payware for my sim. (Given up on hardware... Smiley)

A skilled screenshot artist can get great results out of FSSkyWorld and other freeware atmosphere addons anyway, and with some of the awesome freeware sceneries and planes around....(and you can use The Gimp instead of photoshop) they can still produce a winner. Just look at Aussiewannabe's freeware winner in the Gallery - an amazing shot, and (presumably) no payware in sight!

Don't forget also:

- there are no prizes for JC
- it's up to the judge who may favour freeware or personal taste - check out his work and see what he likes
- the main site comp (with a prize!) and the freeware Gallery poll cater to freeware only - you can nominate three shots of your own for the latter
- Simworld is a gallery of shots picked on the basis of 'does it make the location look good' and its easy to get your work displayed there
- you can display 10 pics in your personal portfolio without having to compete either - you just need to have been here and posted a while, (or to win at least one JC of course  Wink)

Hope that clears things up!

Krigl

You presume correctly, Roger. No payware in sight. Freeware used - FSSkyWorld, VOZ and Nick's LightFix_V2.

As to ActiveSky, I suspect SimV members can spot that in a screenshot.

You may be right but you surely can come very close. Just take a look at the Screenshot Hall of Fame. Those are all winners of the Screenshot Contest in which payware is not allowed.

Great words Roger! I believe that I am a living example of someone who invested time and money in getting my sim and skills to where they are today. I've been around here for just over two years and if you'd compare the shots I made then to the ones I take now, you will (hopefully) see a huge difference. And although I have a really well balanced machine, it is not a monster and it is four years old. So I cannot compete with the 'boys with the big toys'. But I've learned so much in here about balancing a machine and how to take nice screenshots. That is something money can't buy ...

And to prove it I produced the (hopefully) nice screenshot below. I only installed FS Sky World and Real Environment Pro into an otherwise all default Flight Simulator.

krigl wrote on Apr 24th, 2008 at 3:34am:

Exactly ... and eventhough I have not used both aforementioned add-ons in a long while I think they are amazing pieces of freeware! Check it out!

NICE FLYING WEATHER

Ok, I finally got an idea.

A nasty storm surrounds the slopes of Mt. Everest and the mountains nearby. This uses the new high resoultion Everest scenery by Frank Dainese.
