My dad bought the 8 channel cadrige tape (any buddy remember this devices?) for his Dodge ,I don't remember the model , but it looked like the Batman's batmovile ,was new ..he bought this player 8track (don't know the name)  just to put me this song ,I was 4 years old,I constantly ask my dad to put it back dad so many times Over and over and over until my mum kill my dad that's when she went to prision........Kidding  Grin,

I was a kid ,

I had 40 without listening and I was looking for it ,I didn't knew who was the singer ad even the name ,and yesterday by a huge coincidence I found it ...

Have you old people older than 38 ever heard this song in USA or in any part of the world heard this ,because here sounds a lot ,I dont understand that english is rare

Desmond Dekker was known as the King of Ska. He was making hit records before anyone had heard of Bob Marley. I haven't heard this one before but remember his biggest hit The Israelites that topped the UK charts in 1969. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2m9uaTwQcU&feature=related

The reason you don't understand it is that it's in Jamaican slang. I don't understand most of it either.

PS. Pickney means child.

That's one by Desmond Dekker I have never heard either.

It reminds me of Tony Tribe who recorded the original  reggae/ska version of  Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine" also way  back in 1969...... long before UB40 covered it. Smiley

BTW, I'm amused when  some people think UB40 wrote it, have no idea it's a Neal Diamond song from 1968 and don't even know the lyrics deal with a broken heart.  Wink

I don't know that one offhand, but it's ska, so it's good. Smiley

Here are the lyrics:

I put my money into a condens can (condensed milk can?)
You steal it 'way, give it to your TV man (that would be you, Alrot Wink )
Come here, pickney gal, come here, (pickney means child or kid)
Where you think you're running to
I said to come here, girl, pickney gal, come here

How could you say that I'm not real
Look pon your face, it fayva turn cornmeal (your face looks like bad corn meal)
Come here, pickney gal, come here,
Where you think you're running to
I said to come, come here, pickney gal, come here

How could you say I'm not speaking the truth
Look pon your gut, it fayva spoilt jackfruit (your stomach looks like spoiled jackfruit)
Come here, pickney gal, come here
Where you think you're running to
I said to come, come, come here girl, pickney gal, come here
Do, do, ha-ha, hai, ha-hai, hai

(Repeat 2nd and 3rd verse)

Come, come, come here babe, come here
Come here, lord, pickney gal, come here,
Where you think you're running to
Look, I said, come, come, come, come here, pickney gal, come here...
