Since I first got my drivers license back in 2001, I had been driving a 1996 Chevy Camaro 3.8L (V6).  It is green and makes about 200HP.  It was a nice car to drive while I was in high school...and even college, but after 7 years of driving it everyday, I wanted something better.  Plus, I promised myself if I got into dental school at my #1 choice (OHSU), I would buy myself a different car.  And, I did...so, I did.

Ever since it first came out, I really loved the 2002 Chevy Camaro SS with the special 35th Anniversary package on it.  This package requires all the high performance packages that an SS has and on top of them adds special paint, interior, and badging.  Unfortunately, they are rare and expensive.  Before about 2 weeks ago, I had only seen 1 in person.  Well, I found another...and it was for sale.  Even better, it was loaded with all the options I would have gotten from the factory if I had ordered it.  Especially T-Tops and a manual 6-speed transmission.  The car has a 345HP 5.7L all aluminum V8 engine and 3.42 rear end gears (the lowest gears from the factory).  It needs a little work, but I already have plans to get that taken care of in the next couple weeks.  This car is something I have wanted for a very long time, and I can happily say I finally have one!!!

Such a valid point! All that engine for so little power...

Take a look at TVR. Straight sixes, 3.6l - 4l developing between 350 and 425hp

you dont even need to look at high performance cars like that.  take the new opel/vauxhall corsa vxr.  1.6l turbo and it pushes out close to 200bhp as standard (its actually 189bhp).  remap that and your looking at 220+ bhp, all from 1600CCs!!

The 3.8L isn't a turboed motor.  If it was, it would make a lot more power.  The weak little V6 Camaro's were built and market towards women and younger drivers.

Even so, some standard production models here in Europe are producing well over 200 horses with 2.5L engines with only fuel injection. BMW and Mercedes are doing that with straight fives, and they are down rated as it is. You give a European manufacturer a nice V8 to go into a standard production car and the power they get out without a turbo is incredible. It always seems that US car companies are not bothered and end up with an acceptable engine rather than an outstanding one. The rest seems to be left up to the after market companies and the professional tweakers.

European fuel is of better quality. So much better that anything that is imported into the us doesnt pass emission tests on usa fuel

Nice ride man! Congrats...

Darn I want 200+ HP too... I'm living with less than half of that at the moment...  Cry  Wink

I can see why American cars aren't to wanted in Europe. Here, a car like that would have a WAAAAY better looking interior, including leather all over the place, aluminum, etc... instead of those plastics. A bit of a shame, as the car look really nice on the outside. Must be fun to drive though...  Wink

This car has the upgraded interior...so the all the seats, shifter, and steering wheel are all leather, real leather-not that lame fake leather stuff.  Although, the dash and console is plastic.
