Are gullwings preferrable to other kinds of doors?

When the gullwing is opened, the roof and ceiling rises up as a part of the gullwing. This means that an opened gullwing door should give abundant headroom - it would be easier to reach the seat.

On the other hand, since the opening of the gullwing is a part of the roof, it is allegedly harder to make waterproof...

Try parking between two other cars and see how preferable your gullwings are then Grin

Another advantage of the gullwing is the ability to create a sturdier frame. Though yeah, waterproofing and acessibility in confined spaces (parking lot, garage) are two major disadvantages.

However, they do look pretty darn cool.

Actually, some gull wing designs are better for close quarters parking.  For example, the DeLorean DMC-12 gull wing doors only move out a few inches.  The hinges are so close to the center of the car the doors basically go straight up and in.  It sounds weird and I didn't believe it until I rode in one...but its true.
