I need some advice, I have contacted charter about 9 times over the last 3 weeks and even had a tech come to the house but no diffrence. I subscribe to 5 meg service but only download about 45k per second. I have tried all the normal stuff cookies power cycle etc... about 50 times. I have XP and motorolla modem. The last time I talked to support about 10 min ago they just said to get or rent another modem. The tech said when he was here everything looked fine. So I dont have a clue any advice.

If you are downloading stuff from AVSIM and SimV then that is reasonable. Very busy sites. A good way to test if your download speeds really are low then go to itunes and download itunes and after a few seconds if it is not above 45k per sec then you really do have download problems, if not, it is just the server.

If the tech cannot spot anything wrong, then chances are you're fine. Many websites cap there download rates at 50kbs or below, so that may be the problem, try downloading off a website that doesn't have download caps.

I have 1.5mb and download at 150kbs to 350kbs when on the right download server. Smiley

Do also remember that ISPs will try to do whatever they can to give you a service less than what you asked (or presumed to get)

If your internet is 5 megabits then you are only getting like 700kilobytes.

They often give their speeds in different, higher measurements to trick you. Megabytes, megabits... look fairly similar, but one is much smaller than the other.

8meg broadband? Naa, im getting 733kb/s.
