As some may have noted in my recent posting about my new camera, i am planning finally to return to an airport for some photography!! However, before i go, with a better camera, with so many new features i was looking for some advice on how to get some nice shots. Therefore i have a few questions for you guys that photography aircraft often.
1, How do you create photographs whereby the aircraft is in focus, but the background is blurred. I have seen this often, but never picked up on how it is acheived.
2, What settings do you use to ensure propellors on planes and helicopters do not look stationary, and thus a bit fake. There are often helicopters up at Bristol and i would like to get a decent shot of the sweb copter!!!
Cheers guys, hopefully my questions make sense, only i am heading upto the airport on sunday, my only free day at the moment(coursework, revision etc get in the way
) and i want to get some better shots that i did last attempt!

Ahhh...the good old sweb copters....G-OHMS or G-LECA?
You have to use a shutter speed of around 1/300 or less to get blurred props. To blur the background a shallow depth of field is required or panning is needed on a slow shutter speed (this really needs some sort of stabilisation though....
)
If I can get to BRS on Sunday I'll give you a few hints

I shoot propellorplanes at a shuttertime of 1/250. I also use this for panning, resulting in a nice blurred background.
