That's right... Sunday night my girlfriend got a call from a ladyfriend, who's husband is a photographer that follows an actor called Roel Vanderstukken. This actor plays in Flikken - a copshow in Belgium. On monday the new series was presented to the press.

However, the photographer became ill and they asked me to step up the plate and fall in...

Scary...

3 months ago I purchased my first dSLR and now I was standing amidst professional photographers with a camera-combo I've never used ( canon 350D + 24-70 lense + external flash). And they expected me to take some nice shots... Huh  Grin

Anyway, the results...

...

Dont forget to turn the flashead when shooting portret-mode, or you get this harsh shadow as a result... happened only once luckely...

...

...

...

All in all, it could have gone a lot worse. The whole deal was over in 5 minutes, but that meant I didn't have time to experiment a lot with the settings. So I just followed my gut-feeling and fired away.

Anyway, the next day I made it to national television, as they covered the press conference too...

The lady who I was with sent me this still from the program. I'm the very relaxed person with the glasses, just before it was my time to shoot.

...

Again... scary...  Grin

Cheers,

Omag

Let's not overreact... I didn't get payed for this. It was just a great experience, and I have my eye on an organisation where you can get acces to all sorts of events, if you provide photo's. Non paying, but the other photographer became the official one for an entertainement group that houses several artists, this way. He's getting pro at the moment.

I'm getting lots of useful info from this friendly guy.

There are plenty of photostock sites that work with photographers such as yourself. The Large ancient ones won't but there are plenty that do...... I worked at a dutch one for a few months for school so I know a fair bit about it... should you be interested in the future let me know Cheesy

You can always send me the info. But I'm looking more into concert and event-work. Mind you, I still have an aweful lot to learn and to invest material wise. But hey, if you don't try, you don't succeed. Tomorrow I'll be out to buy my next lens...

Congrats, Kris!!!!

What a great opportunity.  When you do it for free it's called getting your foot in the door!!  It's a great way to get your experience then, start charging for your shots!!

I just hope one day we won't see you chasing the Spears sisters around!! Cheesy

That's one thing I'll never do. Trough my girlfriend I've visited several shows of the same performer and it's only because they know I'm low profile and look to support these artists by portraying them the best possible way, that I have had this opportunity. They'll never ask pushy, obnoxious fans that just want to be near the "famous" people...

Lucky man Kris, and good work  Cool

Where did you get the 24-70 from then, were you borrowing the whole setup, in which case were you not tempted to substitute your camera body?  Wink

I did borrow the whole set-up. It had a Speelite 580ex attached + the lens. As I didn't have heaps of time, I decided not to use my 400D and just go with the 350D. All settings are quite similar, so I could work with it without to much of a sweat. I'm buying myself that lens tomorrow... ( we're not talking L-stuff here... costs to much).
