Hi,

After we got 30-40 votes in the January contest I had high hopes that people would nominate loads of pics this month and we would really see the best of the forums chosen by YOU...

However, it seems like people aren't too bothered about this contest, which is fine - it's for members of Simviation and if you, as members really don't feel like submitting anything, okay.

However, if you don't then I have to, but I'm not going to spend hours every month trawling the 3 screenshot forums selecting pictures, putting up the polls, and editing and galleryizing the winners if nobody really cares about it. It becomes Krigl's contest then, and not yours.

If there aren't many more threads with nominations this month I am going to give up on the 'screenshots of the month' competition and we will just have Rate This and the Judge's Choice contests. Maybe that's enough....

Perhaps like the Cage gallery Clipper and I will just arbitrarily add shots to the gallery when we feel like it.

This month's comp will take place as planned, because people have already contributed, but it will be the last unless some other people - lets say another 20 nominations (over at least 4 posts) after Flying Buckeye's post - show interest in it.

Use it or lose it.....

Cheers

Krigl

To be fair, I think Studio V already has enough contests. Judges Choice. Gallery gates (not a contest, really just nomination, but similar). I think it has gone astray from its original purpose to aid the quality of people's screenshots with the introduction of all these contests. Screenshot of the Month is, in my opinion, not needed as long as the Gallery and JC are in places.

Edit: Don't forget the monthly screenshot contest! With that in place, again, I don't see a need for Screenshot of the Month.

Well, at Christmas and in January it was made clear that Gallery Gates has finished and Screenshots of the Month is replacing it.... maybe you missed that and the fact there has been no Gallery Gates for almost two months?? WinkCheesy

We now have ONE once monthly comp with the best of each forum competing in 3 polls, instead of payware vs edited vs freeware in one single fortnightly comp. Freeware hardly ever got nominated, and often got caned by payware and edits when it did. Now freeware has an equal chance, and saw the most nominations last month, in fact. Seems to be a change for the better.... but it does need people to nominate stuff, and judges to actually respond.

Looks like this 'little reminder' has helped with nominations, which is great. We'll have to see how many judges remember to respond. Could be recruitment time again if like in Jan I only hear from 2 of them....

Hope this clears up confusion....

ps. About Studio V moving away from its purpose - Neither Clipper nor I can force people to write regular features, reviews etc. If people want to use Studio V for just competing and posting 'rate this' and 'rip this' pics we can't do much about it. Every regular feature - some of them excellent - so far has died a death after a while - it takes commitment, and where's the reward - someone spends ages compiling something and 3 people comment....

If people need to ask 'how to' questions they can - and do, and they do get helped.. Smiley

Well put Krigl. There have been many features and articles at the Studio focusing on learning new screenshot skills, and as Krigl mentioned, most have proven to be unpopular and/or ignored. Examples: Wingtips, Tutorial library, screenartist interviews... there was even an online editing tutorial set up with one of the finest screenartists ever, even that garnered very little interest. Initially we tried having volunteers writing various weekly/monthly tutorial articles, that peetered out after a month or two as well due to lack of follow up and consistency. It's very dis-heartening to spend so many hours setting up these tutorials and articles and features, only to have interest fade after a very short time. There hasen't been an entry for the Museum submitted in 4-5 months. It seems the only thing at the Studio that really garners consistent interest are the competitions. But if those are becoming redundant and unpopular as well, maybe it's time for a radical shift in the Studio's direction. What that direction is I have no idea at this time, but your suggestions would be most welcome. Let's not let a good thing fade away....input people!!

Cheers Clip Smiley

Looks like we've got enough nominations now to give the gallery judges a good spread of people and their art to choose from. More is always welcome though!!

Thanks guys for taking part!! This comp is for you so enjoy it!! It will only run for as long as people care about it.

Clipper I would put an aircraft into the Museum, but it doesn't fall into WWII. So maybe opening a Korean War/Veitnam room, then a Coldwar Room, then Modern Flight Gallery? I would put a couple aircraft in if that was the case.
