Some pictures of the move of Fairey Gannet XG831 from Flambards to Davidstow. In clicky thumbnail form.
Hoisting her up:
On the truck now:
Rescue Sea King came to say hello!
Got the wings off now:
Ready to go:
Farewell!!
Hope you like.

Hopefully this will be well looked after. Does anyone know how the Gannet at North Weald is getting on?

Is there much left of the aircraft collection at Flambards now?

None, the Wessex was taken to Aeroventure in Yorkshire for restoration just before Christmas. The Gannet was the last complete aircraft, only the Shackleton nose that is kept indoors remains.
Glad I could see her go though.

Thats a shame.
That's why Flambards was called Flambards wasn't it?
Named after popular 70's TV drama of the same name. Can't remember what it was about, only that it was set before the Great War. Had a lot to do with English country houses and that they had something to do with pioneer, flying activity.
I worry about the sustainability of these museums. Being close by and a bit of a regular, I often wonder what would happen to the Fleet Air Arm museum if RNAS Yeovilton weren't there. It gets quieter and quieter every time I visit. And some of the exhibitions haven't changed in 30 years.
On the plus side, it is sometimes nice having the place to yourself.
