The clouds, sky and aircraft are all very good.... but I would have taken the shot over some mountains or something - that sea is a bit dull. Also, if you want the retro black and white look, it might be better trying a sepia effect.

the reason being that based on simply the style of that AC, full color wasn't widely available yet, and B&W although commonplace was starting to get more widely replaced by sepia and other light color films.

Personally I prefer B&W for his shot, because originally it shouldn't look like an old photograph, but like a simple, sharp, B&W photo.
But I made two sepia versions. Is it better now?

Nice! I like the third one the best!
It has the most contrast between the sky/plane and the clouds and water.

Hey, all I'm doing is giving constructive criticism... which is what they ask for by posting these things here in the first place... and the reason I post in alot of these sort of threads is because I want people to be able to get better at screenshooting. What on earth is wrong with that?
I don't post many screenshots because I don't have time to... but what business is that of yours?
P.S. If you're questioning contribution... the comp that's running at the mo in the studio... that was my idea.

I agree with you completly, spitfire boy!
I always prefer rather critical comments because there's no perfect shot and there is always something to improve.
So when I see a critical comment I know that someone really thought about the shot and not just wrote something.
So thanks for your critique spitfire boy.

Sorry about the above post of mine.... I was tired and irritable at the time and I was ready to snap at anything. Although I must say that being accused of lack of contribution I find not only unfounded but also unacceptable, in my mind at least.

i was just saying, you seem ready to critique on everyone elses work yet rarely see yours.

But why is there anything fundamentally wrong with that?
P.S. I can't recall seeing much of yours either...
Anyway, lets stop this now before it gets out of hand. I just wanted to make clear that me helping people become better screenshooters by telling them where improvement can be made does not automatically mean I have to chain myself to my computer (I have other things which have to take priority, bear in mind I'm in the exams period, years 10 + 11) and post a fully fledged screenshot set every 5 minutes. I prefer to come up with one occasionally that I feel I've put a lot of effort into. And I do NOT wish to be lectured to on how I should change that habit. I mean, so what if I'm a bit slow posting my work... that does not automatically mean I cannot get involved in this area, where the shots are displayed. It's a common and rather irritating trend I've been noticing... it is NOT tantamount to hypocrisy, because I'm not accusing anyone of anything or belittling them in any way.

would be nice to see the "expertise" you are dishing oh so equally to everyone else used in your own shots... surely you must be a master of screenart

For pity's sake, when in the previous postings do you see me claiming myself as an expert?! All I am doing is offering critique - which incidentally is what the studio was originally created for, amongst other things - that the people posting these shots are asking for, and my own screenshot-posting habits are
IRRELEVANT
.

I like the original...I for one like the long, expanse of water...It's always nice to see a change once in a while...No need to always have "action" in one's shots...

J is see a lot of great work coming from Spitfire! What i don't see is you posting much shots. I find Spitfire boy and most other great SS Artists help very helpful and smart! Please do not get start making accusations over other people giving help when they asked and needed it.

Let's stop this bickering please. The Studio is NOT the place for it. I'd appreciate everyone backing off here and getting back to posting relevant, friendly comments.

I just thought I'd mention that this was resolved between the two of us much earlier today. Thus everyone else should leave it alone too.
