now i realize that XP is the outdated system now but i'm not going to vista until they fix compatibility issues among other things.

i'll be getting a new laptop soon and was planning on using the Boot Camp feature. being that OS X 10.5 is 64bit i figured that i would go for another OS that had the 64bit architechture. my question is: is Windows XP 64 bit edition really worth it or are the reviews right in saying that it also has compatibility issues?

planned specs*: 2.6ghz C2D, 4gb memory, hi res glossy display, 200gb 7200rpm HD, iWork preinstalled.

Nicholas

*=tentative on what is released tomorrow Grin

I've heard of various compatibility issues with 64bit also. While technology will definitely be heading in that direction in the coming months/years, I would really do my homework on what programs have these compat. issues.
I still use XP myself albeit the 32bit version, but I'm sure that in the coming months...years(?), that Vista will become better and more stable, as hard as that is for some to swallow currently. Saying that, just work (research) on what programs have issues, and try to estimate through research how much of a beneficial performance gain you would get through XP 64 on your current or proposed system.  Smiley

well i was hoping to get more answers than this. i was looking more for the opinion of those who have it installed. pros and cons cause i know every system is different. it may work well or it might suck the life out of the computer. and i couldnt find a whole lot of reviews for the 64bit edition. and newegg only has so many too.

thanks for the input

Nicholas

yeah I was hoping you would get more input as well, since I can't really give you a productive answer on this matter for obvious reasons. Hopefully this reply will bump the post up to the top of the boards again...

Good Luck with your research!
