Pete has asked us if we'd like to come up with a few examples of the logo and text box you see at the top of the SimV Forums page...this one:
...

He's indicated that he'd prefer something simple, clean and elegant. NOT a re-design of the logo, but to create the entire box with our current logo and all the text you see in it. So if you're feeling creative, and would like to possibly see your design permanently displayed atop the forums page, sign in here and get your creativity into high gear. Post your artwork in this thread, The size required is 448 x 100 and the text you see presently in the logo must be included. Remember Pete's suggestion, "less is more" for this design.

I think only one small simv logo in the top left corner, with the same background colour as the rest of the logo, and with the text that is currently in the bottom left corner spread across the entire lower portion of the logo would look better, clip. It's a good start... but those are some of my thoughts to improve it. Wink

I like that one... it just needs a bit of softening up around the logo (looks a bit jaggedy in places) and parhaps the 'simv' text should fill more of the vertical space... looks a bit squashed. Other than that, superb!

Note; I think that the logo needs to have a border such as Masternerd's - otherwise it'll look a bit 'slapped on' as a header... a bit out-of place, especially considering the white background of Yabb 2.2's header 'slot'... Wink

P.S. I know this has been asked before but I don't remember the answer... is there a hi-res simv logo somewhere that I could get hold of?

Or this:

I like the bottom one a lot. All that I think it needs now is to reduce the blue border on the 'simviation' text a little bit, and somesmoothing out - maybe use irfanview's resample feature somehow? Also, doesn't it need the small peripheral words that are in the current one - that was one of the prerequisites, I thought?

P.S. Working on one of my own now but can't really complete it w/out a good hi res logo on white background... I don't have the skill or facilities to make a decent hack at cutting out one of the logos on display already.... anyone gonna donate one to a worthy cause? Grin

Seriously, if anyone could PM me one I'd be very grateful.

I wonder how many Folks (like me) will trawl aimlessly around the suggested (original) Logo, trying to click on the various "links" hoping to reach a particular part of the Site?... Embarrassed...!

.... Grin...!

By the way....how about a clickable link somewhere on the Forum Page, to take us back to the Sim V Main Page (Home), without having to modify/type the address in the Address Bar?

We can reach the Forum Page from the Main Page, but not in reverse...Cry...!

I really like that one! Just one thing: Look at the "Simviation" text here: http://www.simviation.com/ ... it is a bit less wide Smiley Smiley

Or maybe you could cut the text from there and put in the new one Smiley

Mic, i've asked Pete to send us the logo as a psd file. When I get it, i'll forward it to anyone who would like to use it. I can convert it to whatever anyone needs....jpeg, tiff, pdf etc...

Wright Stuff, try to make the text as individual words that stand alone, as now they read "screenshots design" and "informtion community screenart". They have to be read as independant terms. Nice design though!

I agree with clipper the text at the top should be a tad darker. But personally I dont think that text really needs to be in the logo, let the site content speak for itself. My opinion and Im sticking to it Grin

I think a nice border around the logo would really set it off, but overall very nice clean and simple Wink

CptHammond, the background screened image is very difficult to make out, I don't know what it is despite looking at it for a minute or two. It should be instantly recognizable.....otherwise looking good. Remember Pete insisted we keep all the text in the logo box. I've e-mailed three of you the logos in psd, i'll get a good jpeg done shortly.

Here's mine revised again...

I think the logo's too small and set on a background that doesn't match. That's the bad bit. The rest is spot-on.... although I must say I think cpthammond's one is astonishing. Shocked

I tried to make a good one but my skills in Paint.net and GMIP are far to to minuscule to do anything.

Luke has my vote at the moment, fits in brilliantly, simple, effective and great to look at!

Masternerd's design is brilliant aswell though, but the simplicity of Lukes just takes it for me.

Luke's proposal is astonishing! Clean and simple. Very Web 2.0 what ever that means Grin

I'm in favor of that one too ... however I'd like to see a version without the artsy 'S' in 'forums'.

EGNX, I love the last version, might try having the viation the same size as Sim though. Otherwise you're creating a whole new logo, inconsistent with the current one. Otherwise FABULOUS!
P.S. I love the stylized s...

It's not a matter of which one is better, J. I think that the one I requested is a little easier for the eye to look at; I feel that in the one with the stylized 's' your eyes jump all over the place. I like the "Apple's Glass Table' design but if you keep adding features to the logo, you not only move away from the original design (and thus you are basically creating a new one) but are creating a 'restless' logo. You should keep in mind that you'd want to design a logo that is strong & clear and recognizable at first sight but keep in mind that you must never deviate from the original design. Think Microsoft, or what ever other brand that you come up with that has their name as a logo. You'll never see it change unless in case of a complete corporate re-branding. Those logo's are always the same, strong and clear and instantly recognizable.

That is what the first version (on top of the forums now) lacks. Although it is recognizable, it makes your eyes jump all over the place, not to mention that I'm still trying to figure out what is in the gray background ...

Of course you can love it ... but does it work marketing wise? Not to mention from a design perspective Wink

@ Luke: try to space the tagline so that it aligns with the main logo and try a version that does not have the outline in the font. In that perspective I think the original design was a little easier.

Remember, most of the time: Less is more Wink

And as Danny suggested make the 'viation' and 'sim' the same font size and you've got your self a winner in my opinion!

I have to admit the aircraft is, in my opinion, the way to go. Yes maybe a bit of re-branding. But I think it fits the topic of this whole site much better then just the logo and
SIM
VIATION
. To me its very pleasing to the eye and presents the logo from left to right, almost like a skywriter.

Im not a big fan of the text underneath the logo, but using a sliced image exported in HTML would make sense. The text looks like navigation why not use it as such to direct visitors into the forum. Using a sliced image would not compromise the design of the logo at all. This can be done very easy in Image Ready. Without a navigation path it is just clutter in the design.

Just my 2 cents for what it is worth Grin

There's only one problem I can see with Luke's; the text under the main logo looks a bit faint. I think it needs to be a little clearer. Still, it's a fantastic looking thing!

P.S. Love the stylized 'S' Cheesy

Luke - I'd be very happy to go with your design! (Capt Hammond would be a close 2nd in my opinion)

Remember you were only just pipped with the main SimV logo -

Would it be possible to clean this up (get the text size right & make the sub text a LITTLE more visible) & present it in both stylised/non stylised  's' high quality versions?

That would be great !

Thank you!
