Congrats on your purchase!
I'll start quoting myself:
Quote:
There's a TrainSim community just like there is a flightsim community.

Check:

http://www.train-sim.com/
French:
http://www.activitysimulatorworld.net/ASW_Msts_index.htm
http://www.funtrain.net/index.php?cible=idf
(Where I got my TGV and TGV route)
German and English:
http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/index.php?action=dlarea
They've got a lot of international addons.  Smiley

Ok, most / all addons are downable through www.train-sim.com, but I got "All nodes are currently busy. Please try again later." this morning. so most links point to a German page, but you can switch to English aswell.

1st you should get the MSTS updates , for example here:
http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/index.php?action=dlarea&dlareaaction=see_fil...
This brings your TS on the newest version and adds two new locomotives.

Then you should download MSTS bin.
http://mstsbin.uktrainsim.com/
That's an unofficial release , but very powerful and legal. You don't have to have the CD inserted to play and highly modifies the gauges to trasparent ones, so they aren't disturbing any more in the cockpit.
A must have in my opinion.

Then you shoud hav a consist maker program, I use "convoi".
Get it here:
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/convoi/telechargements/telechargements.htm
You can put trains together with that program.

Other Addons required by some Addons (I could zip it and mail it to you....):

NewRoads_V40_MSTS1_Setup.exe - better roads and cars driving around
Schiene.zip - new textures for the railroads useable for all addons
tsection.dat - build 00038 of the standardized \global\tsection.dat file
XTracks.zip - tracks / track textures
Ytracks01.zip - tracks / track textures
YTRACKS02.rar - tracks / track textures

Routes:
Bodensee-Toggenburg (BT) in Switzerland is a must have. Just released and a real beauty. Ai-traffic, activities..., real rocking addon.
here:
http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/index.php?action=dlarea&dlareaaction=see_fil...
Comes with historic and up-to-date trains and activities.
...

Ligne Grand Est:
http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/index.php?action=dlarea&dlareaaction=see_fil...
...
Also don't forget to download some french trains.
I suggest
- You already know the TGV duplex and the
...
-TGV pos released yesterday  Grin.
...
- Also there's the TGV atlantic, that's the old squared one.
- German ICE3 for the route to Paris
- Eurostar

LGV-MED:
http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/index.php?action=dlarea&dlareaaction=see_fil...

Frankfurt - Cologne:
http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/index.php?action=dlarea&dlareaaction=see_fil...
It's not Frankfurt Cologne yet, it's Limburg - Cologne, but they are working on it....

Also you could get some of the RER routes:
http://www.funtrain.net/index.php?cible=idf
That's the routes around Paris.

A big warning:
Be sure to backup your folder! Some Addons may ruin your installation.
When installing scenery always run the included "install.bat". This makes sure you have all textures installed.

Other than that I'd suggest downloading some locomotives and cars, put a train together and have a first start....
Remember to edit the *.eng for the right cabviews and sounds.

I know of a lot German locomotives and cars, but you can search for the ones you like best. If you are interested in German ones I could do some recommandations, but I guess this is a lot to start and will keep you busy for a while.

Puh..., hard work putting all that together, helped??

Cheers,
Fabian

P.S.: Sorry Oink-Blabber, don't know of many American Addons..., but by default some American trains and routes are included.

Wow, thanks Fabiane!! That's really great! Didn't spot you'd added it earlier, luckily you referred to it in your reply to my thread. I'll have to give some of these a go over the next few weeks...

I'm starting with the LGV-MED route because it's only 30mb...the Bodensee route is huge, and I seem to be getting a dl speed of 8 kb/s from that site. At least you can actually get in there, unlike Train Sim (No Nodes) - why on earth so many people choose to host their files on No Nodes I do not know. Do they want to keep them secret?

The Ligne Est route is being temp hosted on another site which is down due to something with piracy - I can't read French...  Cry Ah, well, I'll have to wait.

I could send some routes via yousendit.com, so you get higher dwnl. speeds.

And I'm having the 250MB installer for LGE...., just drop me a line.

Cheers,
Fabian

Okay, I tried the LGV-Med route and it worked, not bad, a bit boring...but the TGV Pos stuff wasn't recognised by the sim, couldn't find their files after I ran the self installer. I installed both the locos and carriages, and they were definately in there - the only way I could get the sim to start was by removing them  Cry
So I did the route in the Amtrak Acela  Roll Eyes

Any ideas anyone?

Did you install the updates aswell?
Does the TGV duplex work?

Install into a tmp. directory and look at the files beeing copied....,
are the *.con files in the trains\consist folder? Otherwise MSTS won't recognise the trains....

Drop a line if it doesn't work.

As a start I could really recommend the Bodensee route. Because it all comes in one package you can run all activities without problem.

Or open some activities in the editor and change the trains to the TGVs once installed. You can't run the included activities without adjusting the link for the trains..., it like running a FS Mission in FSX without having the planes installed, it'll crash the sim....

Helped?

Cheers,
Fabian

First of all, my eyesight is really poor!  I can't find out how to post a new thread.  I thought I might've done that already but now I can't find the option to do it again??????  So I'm selecting "reply" and just doing the best I can!!!

I'm new to this stuff.  Up to now, I did little more than just drive the Acela up and down its route in MSTS.  Now I'm looking for something more.  The latest version of the TGV POS?  The one with the doors that actually open?!  And a route for it that includes the Channel Tunnel?  And the TGV Duplex?  Is there one with doors that open?  And with a complete interior?  Smiley  (The TGV POS interior appears to be incomplete.

I've searched for these things among others and found little.

I found and downloaded SOME of the following stuff I redd about in a post by "fabian_e," on Jan. 15th, 2008.  And if something doesn't have an installer or a Setup file, do I just drop it somewhere in MSTS?  And where???

This was the hardest stuff to find, (along with the trains I mentioned above):

Schiene.zip - new textures for the railroads useable for all addons
tsection.dat - build 00038 of the standardized \global\tsection.dat file
XTracks.zip - tracks / track textures
Ytracks01.zip - tracks / track textures
YTRACKS02.rar - tracks / track textures

Also, the SOUNDS in MSTS are pretty unrealistic.  Especially the ones for the steam engines.  Are there improvements for the Acela sound... and stem engine sounds?

I'm into all the high speed trains!  And the more realistic, the better.  Does anyone know if any one of the other train sims do a better job than Microsoft on the high speed trains.... and the TRACK, (which is kind of yucky in MSTS!)  Smiley

A lot of questions......  Sorry!  Sad

Thanx in advance for any help!  Smiley
