Here it is/was!.....weep, all my FS Nav Chums!... Cry...>>>>>

http://www.fsnavigator.com/
---------------------------------------------
Copy of my Post on the Sim Flight Forum:

http://forums.simflight.com/

I suppose the best we long-term FS Nav users can do is to make sure we have a complete back-up copy of the Original, Registered, Installation File stored on a separate CD/DVD!!
...(I have!)...
...and make perfectly sure we have our registration code safely written down somewhere, (tattooed on our Forehead?), and stored in a Safety deposit Box...(Registration Code, not our Forehead!)... Shocked ...!

I am curious to know what happens when/if we Format our Hard Drive, (therefore losing all our Registration data), and the FS Nav Site no longer exists to verify our Registration Details?... Cry..!

Cheers, all FS Nav Chums... Cheesy ...!

FS Nav is dead. Long live FS Nav!

If you have already got it, hang on to it, look after it, and treasure it... Wink...!

Kermit, my old Chum.... Wink...!

You do realise that there is a nominal charge for the use of my FS Nav Flight Plans?

This can be in the form of a can of "Foster's Original", a Bottle of Californian Red, or a large pack of Chocolate Cookies, upon receipt of my carefully calculated Flight Plan.

(A night of Lust with your "Future Wife" is a viable option..... Roll Eyes...)... Wink....!

...LOL... Grin...!

Cheers... Wink...!

Helge, the designer of the amazing program, (and in ill health), got fed-up with all the FS Nav users whining and moaning about various parts of the the program, updates, FSX version, etc, etc....!

There was going to be an FSX version sometime last year, or beginning this year, but that is not going to happen now!

So, all we present FS Navigator Users, make sure you have your copy of the original install.exe file, (not just the the program Folder!), safely stored on an external CD, etc, together with your Registration details, because you wont be ably to download the program again!!

I would not have continued to use the MS Flight Sims so enthusiastically for so many years without having FS Navigator, since the original version released for FS '98..!

Paul....G-BPLF... Cool...!

Tip: If ever you release a nice product onto the market via your new Web Site....NEVER generate an open Forum within the Web Site....you will encourage all the World's dregs to accumulate, and argue, and constantly complain within it...trust me... Wink...!

I downloaded FSnav some time ago and I will soon reach the end of the 20 times trial period. Since it is no longer for sale and the support for it has stopped would it be considered piracy if I would find a registration code on the internet and use it? Since it is 'abandoneware' (?) now, the designer gave up all the rights to it, am I correct?

Dunno, Carlo...

Try inquiring here?....>>>>>

The problem is, the full program is only fully activated after purchasing the Program, and receiving a special Key Code via E-mail to insert into the Program Menu.
Each Key Code is then peculiar to each installed program...Wink...!

LAGO FSE Scenery Design Program works the same way.

Paul....(FS Nav Registered Version since FS '98)... Cool

A typical case where the Program was not available as a CD Version, with the Key Code printed on the Jewel Case.... Cry...!

Hopefully the author will release the last program version into the public domain with the registerred key code requirement removed from the coding.    Or with a "universal" code supplied (his likely "back door" already there.)

Just because the program is discontinued as a commercial product does NOT automatically release the copyright that the author has on the software.  It is up to him or her to "release" it,...... or not.

"Abandonware" is a misunderstood concept.  Some so called "abandonware" is still copyrighted to the original author...... it is just that the original author never intends to enforce the copyright....so there is no "trouble" to get into by violating the copyright.

An example of where this might be an issue is if an older piece of "abandonware" by an author was in direct conflict with a newer commercial offering by that author.  The author then might want to suppress any use of the OLD package even though it is not being supported anymore.

best,

.....................john
