Not only does Half Life 2, Episode 2 require an internet connection, now they have patched the other Half-Life games including Counter-Strike Source so that THEY have to be played on-line!  I will NEVER buy anything with Steam or Valve again man, not even if they do Pac-Man...  Angry

Counter Strike Source has always worked of the steam platform, infact all source games have always requires the Steam platform to be used.

the steam program is a great thing, no longer are your fiddling around with CD's or worrying about their condition as you can just download all the titles you own, and you can gain instant access to anygame you want to own, and as all major games are coming available on Steam it gets better.

unless you do not actualy own the game, steam is not a problem (and even if you dont their are ways around it... sort of)

so what is your gripe with Steam, just that it requires the internet? well you can set it to offline mode allowing you to play all SP games if you do not have a constant connection.

just remember, Valve will NEVER EVER EVER ask you about your personal details or account info EVER! so if you have some numpty on steam friends saking you ignore them, thats the only down side to steam IMO, the fraudsters.

Let's try this again...

THEY PATCHED THEIR OLDER GAMES SO YOU MUST PLAY THEM WHILE ONLINE.  Angry

If you really see nothing wrong with this, then you are nuts...

No, I didn't mind steam as long as they didn't screw around with my games, but between HL2 Ep2 and this atrocity, they can stuff it...

Oh, and I DO own the games.  Please do not accuse me of piracy again.  I am not some little teenage spoogeboy who hack his crap of some pirate site.  You may want to consider who you accuse in the future.

Kevin, i meant that as a general statement, it was not aimed at you! so sorry if you think i was accuseing you of piracy.

i can still play EP2 in offline mode

...

look bottom right, the steam symbol, with the red line at the top means im in offline mode.

i can load up all games that i have 100% completly downloaded. you cant browse for servers and things though as you are not connected to the steam system.

as far as im away this has always been the case, allowing LAN play but not Online.

No harm, no foul...

I understand how to play Steam Games in off-line mode. I do it all the time.  However, Ep 2 is not supposed to be available off line, to my understanding.  Now, Steam tells me I can't play Counterstrike or my other games off-line as well.  If this is some kind of glitch, I'll gladly admit to looking like and a$$ and move on.  However, I do not believe Steam has the right to tell me I have to be online to play a single player game that has no reason to be connected to the internet.  CS is of course, played on-line, but I like to play off-line as I am only using a 112kb connection and to practice. Ep 2 is not a multi player game, nor is HL2 or Ep1...

hmm... a lan should be available in offline mode and you should be able to add bots to the session as well (CS Source that is) im pretty sure it use to let me do it before i got my broadband connection.

...

it let me start a CSS lan session with bots while in offline mode... the only thing i could suggest is makeing sure your games are all up to date otherwise everything should be fine.

A quick long call to a friend straightened me out, although I don't know how you manage Ep 2 off-line.  You shouldn't be able to, from what I've read.  Enjoy this, it's not that often I violate the quote in my signature...  Embarrassed
