I have absolutely no idea how to paint an airplane and make it into a texture. Is there anyone who can tell me how to do this? Or anyone who has time on their hands that will make a North Carolina Tar Heels MD-80?

Hi,

I'm also at the starting of learning this and have noticed that http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1085390323 could help you a lot if you use photoshop. But i;m not sure what to do because i use pixia ..... Undecided

There are several repainting tutes posted on various sites. Everyone has their favourite methods & there's no right or wrong way of doing it.

You will need a graphics editing software preferably with advanced features like Layers. There are several freeware examples available. Here's a few to try.
GIMP
Pixia
PhotoPlus 6
Nobody can teach you how to use them so try them all & choose the one that you are happy with.

DXTBmp is invaluable for converting FS textures. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm

A couple of repainting tutes to get you started. Both feature Paint Shop Pro but the principle is the same whichever graphics editor/paint program you use.

http://www.gjsmith.net/Tutorial/full_tutorial.htm

Don't expect instant results. Like anything worthwhile this takes time & practice.

Good luck. They're all different in some way. PhotoPlus 6 is very similar to Paint Shop Pro in many respects. To save in BMP format use the File/Export option.

Right. I should have checked the tute.

If you're using PhotoPlus 6 or one of the other alternatives they might not have the same tools or options as PSP. This means you will have to find another way over it which shouldn't be a problem. Try one of the other tools.

It's a long time since I used PSP5. To change the tool properties try this. Select the Retouch Tool from the side menu. Then Right-click on the hand icon & select Tool Options from the menu. This should open the Tool Options window.

...

(Toggle the options palette windows with the Tab key.)

If I remember correctly the PSP5 free trial has a time limit of 30 days. Unless you're prepared to purchase PSP I recommend you learn to use one of the freeware alternatives instead.

Hi all,

I've ran into a problem when opening some of the paintkits for aircrafts. I'll attach a screenshot for you to see:

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd114/captaincarl_2007/paintkitthingeything.j...

Any ideas what it could be?

The texture is in an Extended BMP fornat. Try converting it with DXTBmp. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
