The terrible accident certainly helped everybody make up their minds about that, although yes, it was not competing at all in the current climate of budget long-distance flying and outrageous fuel prices.
It's sad, but it's a fact: ask any airplane owner what keeps a plane in the air, and he will tell you "money".
