care to explain why?
everyone else has said 9 and you said boring? reasons?
Actually, yes I will explain...
First, I don't care at all what
"everybody else" thinks...
Their views and what they see in your shot may totally differ from my view...
It is called Art and we all see things differently.
StudioV was created for people to ask questions about screenshot taking to improve their technique.
All these posts, "rate this", shred that" that seem to have become more frequent here,
means that if you are posting something like that, YOU are opening the door for any type of criticism that does not need an explanation unless asked for.
Don't act surprised if an explanation is not given. StudioV is not for softies!
When you enter this forum, be prepared to be insulted,.... Especially when you ask for it!
If the shot was posted in the Freeware Forum and I responded with that comment, that would be a different story as I was not
asking for criticism.
Screenshot taking is an Art...
Perfecting your shots and posting images that stand above the rest then asking... "what can I improve ?" is the foundation of this place and what it was created for.
Seems a few have either gotten lazy by posting every shot they take and ask for suggestions, or they really do not know what this is about.
People are taking a basic shot, posting it and seeing what kind of reaction they can get. I posted the same thing about SIMWORLD.
People were just flying someplace and sapping a shot of a mountain with blurry ground textures and nothing great about it.
The images we post in Simworld should make a person say, "I want to Fly there" not "No reason to fly there!"
If you are trying to improve screenshot taking, then ask, execute, shoot lots of shots and choose the one that will have that favorite post topic.. "Rate This".
All those other shots, go clog up the Freeware forum with em!
So, my response of BORING is just that and here is why...1. You have a shot of an aircraft parked in a hanger.
2. The distance is too far for me. I like looking at aircraft not the inner makings of an airplane hanger.
3. The lighting is nothing great, actually there is no lighting.
4. The angle is kind of "default" looking.
5. Too much concrete in the shot, I feel I need to go get a broom!
6. Don't like the bright yellow lines as it immediately tells me this is a game and not a photo.
7. It doesn't make me feel anything at all. I looked at it and said,.. "next..."
How I would try to improve it1. Since you like the "hanger" look for this shot, maybe pull it half way out of the hanger opening. This way you have a bit more freedom to compose your shot.
2. Open the doors of the aircraft to give a "live feel" to the shot.
3. Try to get more sky in the background, this will give your shot some dimension.
4. Change the time of day to like dawn or dusk. Professional photographers know that at dusk, something called "pink light" will present itself. It is the best time for taking screenshots as lighting will be more dramatic. If you like the full day lighting, then you better have some decent sky happening.
5. If you are doing a "still shot", make sure "Aircraft Shadows" are set to
ON in your sim. This will give your aircraft some "height".
6. Now that you have some sky in the background, try to create an ominous sky with some bold clouds, "thus why your aircraft is in the hanger.
7. Try experimenting with camera angles. Obviously that is FSX and FSX has allot of default angles. Try viewing in "spot view" (as you did), and press "A". You will see that there are some interesting default angles the "camera" will toggle though. Unique angles will always stand out. Shots from a distance are always nice but up close seeing rivets is always impressive.
I am not coming down on anybody at all... it is just my view on it and how I go about trying to compose all my screenshots.
Many of the proshots I take for the Payware companies are always 90% shots of still aircraft. After all, they are trying to sell the product, thus people need to see the product. We all know the plane can fly, they want to see the detail as that is what "sells"!
There are many, many of you here that post really nice works of art! This place has really grown! Danny has done an Excellent job with all the contests, etc... There is no place else on the web that offers what we do here. The latest FSX VS. FS9 Screenshot Battle is a great idea and very interesting to watch! I have also seen many people's shots improve dramatically.
I don't want to come off as a know it all but I can say I have years of experience both as a photographer and screenshot taker. Shots that I thought were awesome were denied and I had to retake them. I learned from failure and hard criticism. Didn't take it personally, I took it professionally and learned from it.
Every time I fly I load up my digi and snap an average of100 or so shots. From taxi - takeoff - flight - to landing.
I will spend a long time filtering what shots I want to select and upload to post.
Sometimes I will not even post anything out of 100 or so because I am looking for the best shots. If they are not there, I will wait to see if I can capture them on my next flight.
I do not enter any contests or try to gain any "bragging rights" around here.
I post screenshots because I like to share my experiences and images of my sim world with the rest of you.
125 views and 10 responses is as good to me as 125 views and no responses.
I know those 125 views said something to the person looking at them.
Sorry if I offended anybody! Sometimes I need to come out of my role as a Moderator and just be one of the group!
Thanks for listening,
Time to go punch in!
Dave
