C'mon guys back on topic, for now. I too would like this question answered (if possible). Is there any conflict between UTX and this new GEX? What's the difference? Which would be a better purchase?
Undecided

No conflicts as far as I can tell. GEX is about textures, UTX changes river and road placement, stuff like that. Also, if you get an FTX region pack it should just go over the top of UTX without problems...

As I said in my other post in this forum, ( http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1195639051 ) I would try getting an accurate landclass and see what the FSX textures look like. If you're happy with them, IMHO I'd buy UTX for the accurate realism it will bring via proper placement of key features.

wait does GEX improve the look of textures or the texture resolution? Cause I'm getting confused as to if this is a competitor to FTX, or a different product entirely

Yes it should. On the FTX website they said they were working with the developers of UTX to tie their two products together seamlessly

Just a quick hit and run from me on this topic because I have to leave but I will return and post more information

UTX works fine with GEX

There ARE issues with GEX showing dust looking textures around the roads in UTX which require either an update from GEX, or, turn OFF the road encasements in UTX

ALSO, there are issues with Cloud9 because cloud9 install a SEASONS.BGL with their landclass product which renders GEX seasonal textures USELESS. To fix, open the Cloud9 directory (or where ever you installed it) and RENAME the seasons.bgl to seasons.bgl.old   DONT USE IT with GEX

As for FTX it will work fine with UTX but GEX and FTX plating right together will depend on those two devs get together and make sure they do not screw each other up.

adding environment changes to color can make for some strange results if they are not carefully balanced

There are more settings in UTX such as the railroad enhancements and the off-ramp road enhancements which GEX makes look bad. I turned them off along with shutting down the seasons.bgl and I see differences now, but still, not like the mountians I see in the screenshots posted at the GEX website.

I am sure Anthony is working on getting this all straitened out.

Also, MAKE SURE your texture resolution is set to a MINIMUM of 60cm. 1M will NOT allow the highest res to be seen with GEX.

Airports will have that same dust looking texture in its surrounding grass area depending on the time of year.. something they are working on too.

Huge update coming from Anthony, possibly by the end of the weekend, to address missing rock textures, desert airport pads, revised autogen, better placement of tropical vegetation and optional new SW, Midwest textures, adapted to better suit the Grand Canyon colors as seen in real-life

Minor update to address some tall AG buildings being in the wrong place here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=23611

UPDATE 2 has been released

http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=23771

UTX, ASX, etc have NOTHING to do with what GEX replaces. They work together. I would not fly without it.

SW Update coming soon to make the grand canyon and other areas of the SW correctly colored http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=23756

So Cloud9 stuff works fine with GEX, UTX, and other meshes as long as SEASONS.bgl is not beeing used correct?

The seasons.bgl it installs cancels out the proper fall and winter colors so yes, I remove all the season files from the cloud9 landclass install folders

Me too. Right now on my FSX sim I'm using  UTX with FS GlobalX 2008 mesh. Was going to add FEX, but have decided to wait for REX which I think is about as close to looking like the real thing as you can get. Check out the preview screens here. http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/cloud/index.html Do you think this is a good plan? Also I'm wondering if REX will any large effect on frame rates?
