Hmmm... A Vietnam Veteran would know better than I would. I wasn't a winger but I was a 81mm mortarman in the First Persian Gulf War. I know we, along with the arty guys would mark a target for an aircraft with willy pete, but I'm not sure if any aircraft would mark a target for another aircraft - definately not in my war. I know the Forward Air Controllers in Vietnam flew Broncos, Bird Dogs and Loaches, but I think they just noted the exact coordinates, got the hell outta dodge and called in fast movers or called in for heavy fire support.
