Does anyone know how to make Vista allow me to make changes to some different files?

For example:

When I try to update FEX, I get this error -

...

And when I try to edit a panel.cfg file in FSX, I get this error -

...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vista is horrible when it comes to file editing under eg. Program Files.

1st: Never unzip update files directly into a path, extract it to another location eg, a file created on the desktop, then copy files into right folder.

2nd: When you want to edit a .CFG file, (panel.cfg or aircraft.cgf) copy the file to eg. your desktop, edit the file there, save and then paste back into the original folder.

Hope it helps  Wink

FSX runs fine... the problem
is you or your system

looks like a possible VISTA admin issue... you need to make the files the software is trying to edit accessable. The security settings in Vista may be refusing to allow those files be written to. Make sure you are in an admin account and set the system to allow notepad edit access and file access

I am sure that is the problem... seach for the method that explains how to allow config file edits in vista.. I forget the process right off hand

I'll give it a try, thanks again Nick. Wink

EDIT:  Seems all I had to do was click "run as administrator" instead of running it regularly. Grin Tongue Roll Eyes  Whatever... Wink
