Just a few pics of the various Shinto/Buddhist temples/shrines we visited on the first day....enjoy...

note...images made small to fit more into a thread Wink

A traditional buddhist rock garden....feel free to contemplate the stones, of which there are 15, symbolising the 15 islands of Japan....wherever you sit there is always at least one stone which is hidden....

...

I love japanese curvy roofs....and the tiles aswell Wink

...

Quite a famous site...the temple of the golden pavilion

...

A shinto shrine in the centre of Kyoto....nice little towers

...

This is a shinto temple in the foothills of the mountains....lovely and serene with a nice view...

...

The view....apologies for quality Wink

...

The main temple is supported on the hillside by wood....no nails and no glue...all slotted together

...

The entrance gate at dusk

...

and one in big form as I liked it Wink

...

There we go....I'll try and post some more sometime soon Wink

The year 9's at our school went to japan a few eeks ago! My science teacher (Who went) took a photo of the golden temple which looked almost identical to yours! Same time of day and same angle except he had a wide (not small) picture
