Here we go again – with Judge JNC who won last weeks ‘Water’ competition with THIS:

...

JNC obviously likes water, because he’s sticking with the said element in a rather more ephemeral state….

“CLOUDS”

...

JNC says:

"Using clouds can be a great way of adding interest and depth to a shot. The Sim scenery can be stunning, however it can be very bland and flat. Simply framing the shot with a simple cloud cover can make a huge difference.

This subject is good for users of FS9 or FSX. Your shot simply needs to use clouds to show your chosen aircraft off to its best. Or, you may simply show a stunning cloudscape without an aircraft if you prefer.”

THIS WEEK'S RULES

1. There can be payware or freeware in the shots, FS any version. Editing is allowed but no composites, as only a few people can do them and it's hard to compete with a composite!

2. The screenshot must show CLOUDS… aircraft are optional.

3. You nominate one shot only, as a thumbnail of about 5 kb. IT CAN BE AN OLD SHOT if you don’t have time to create something especially for the comp, though original entries are encouraged….  Post it in this thread, below.
DEADLINE for submission of shots is 8 PM GMT on SATURDAY.

The judge will choose which shot is best and tell Krigl on Saturday or Sunday…
DEADLINE FOR JUDGE TO INFORM KRIGL: 8 PM GMT SUNDAY
The winner will be announced Sunday evening.

THE WINNER IS THE NEXT JUDGE!

And, your winning shot goes into the Personal Portfolios!

...

4. The winner should decide on the next competition, and, by MONDAY NIGHT 8:00 GMT, send KRIGL one pic plus a short text to describe the competition and what they are looking for. Also send another couple of your best shots.

We will start the new competition on Monday night, so people have 5 evenings to produce their entries.

5. This is for fun, so just post whatever seems to you to fit the rules. In the spirit of StudioV, we're all aviation and aviation screenie fans, and friends, and so just about everything goes. Rules are secondary, and no questions needed.

It might be an idea to check out our Judge's work, see what he likes....

...

TWO 'IMPORTANT' NOTES

A. The main point is that you get to be the judge – but the winning shot will also extend your portfolio….

B. If people don’t meet the dead-lines, don’t be surprised if Krigl makes the choices or even the competition for you. Studio V must ‘run on time’….  Sorry to be evil about this but it’s for the greater good, as it were.

...

Well, let’s see what everyone can rustle up on the airy theme of clowns. I mean crowds. Curse my deficient short term memory…. Off to read the rules again.

Here's one shot where I always thought the clouds give nice depth and a sense of altitude:
http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/4167.jpg

Only, there are four aircraft in this shot, I hope that is allowed? If not, I will find another shot.

I love the view of the wing and the clouds as well as the composition (wing, clouds, sun, sea and shore), I'm not sure about the starry sun, but I'm afraid I do not like the water, huge waves! I also think that the coastline is a bit straight and angular, that distracts a bit from the general composition.

I saw one example without a craft-are we able to do just clouds alone in an environment?  the reason I ask is because the rules partially say to contain an aircraft yet the example doesn't...

To imply that JNC is the fat lady would certainly lower my chances of winning the contest Roll Eyes Actually, I was testing eno's sense of humor. I was expecting to see a gif of an opera singer.

The only person who can answer it is JNC - he's the judge. To be honest, it says in the rules clouds and aircraft, and I've yet to see an awesome cloudscape that doesn't look even better with an aircraft in it... but perhaps you could PM him if you'd like an answer.

Ok I have sent a msg to stubbedtoe - cut/paste for the thread as well - clouds alone are fine

msg

'Sorry for the delay - I didn't realise I got to set the rules as well.

My original brief was for the clouds to be helping to show off an aircraft. This question never occured to me before.

Ok - clouds alone are fine. I will post a msg in the thread. The cloud shot will have to be rather special to beat one with an aircraft as well - but hey, go for it'

Ahh I have no chance with such great shots in here, especially with the newest addition of Tweak's...  this is hands down my favorite theme and Judge's Choice as of yet.  Great idea!  I'll be posting hopefully tomorrow, being kicked off my comp.

I must admit, it's a lovely plane to take screenshots with. Can get away with all sorts of angles, whilst staying convincing. An upside down screenshot of a 747 just doesn't work, somehow!

Hard choice for what I was going to enter, and I had some recent ones but decided just to with one of my old shots from FS2004 from long ago.  I like the look of the clouds.

Well Patty Wagstaff is sponsored by Cirrus, hence why it's painted on her Extra. Wink

I suppose that ties in nicely with the theme, too, what with cirrus clouds and all...
